I remember the local theater had a side door for black people. They had to sit up in the balcony.

I remember public water fountains marked "White" and "Colored".

Our schools weren't fully integrated until I was in high school. For 2 or 3 years before that there was a voluntary integration but I only remember there being one boy in our class.

I remember, before public housing, our church bus going to the black section of town to pick up people for Sunday school and seeing the ground through the planks in the floor in some of the houses.

And I remember the black girl in my high school algebra class who went on to win a Pulitzer Prize at the New York Times.

Plastic and metal are both currently available. Last year I bought a metal slinky for my son. It was fun while it lasted but is now bent out of shape and is no longer usable. I recently replaced it with the plastic version. It doesn't work quite as well, but I don't think it can become bent out of shape.

Yep and Amazon even has a few games of that type for the Kindle. Things like Choice of broadsides and Choice of the Vampire are basically text adventure games.

What is her name? You have me curious especially since there are several different catagories.

Her byline was E.R. Shipp. She won in1996 for Commentary.

Correction: She did work for the NYT but when she won the Pulitzer she was at the New York Daily News.

I remember getting the daylights scared out me as a kid watching a movie called "Target Earth" on TV. It was about a city where an army of robots from Venus killed everyone there except for four survivors who were in hiding.

Just this week I discovered that the "robot army" was one robot that the producers used over and over. The special effect budget for that film was rather limited.

Wish I could find that movie for rent online.

I understand something similar was done in the movie Aliens. There are scenes where a large # of aliens attack the humans but in reality there were in actuality only 4 total. They had a good budget but I guess the costumes weren't cheap so they used a variety of tricks to make it look like it was a very large # of aliens.

I remember being terrorized by the tree monster in From Hell It Came. I must have been very young because now I can't see how anyone could watch the monster without laughing.

We used to watch Dialing for Dollars in the afternoon after school. They showed the old B&W sci-fi and horror movies. We watched the old Universal and Hammer horror film and the Vincent Price Poe movies and 50s sci-fi.

I was terrified by the movie "Them" when I was very young. I honestly have never watched it since. Some things are best left as memories.

I remember being scared of the sleestacks in Land of the Lost as a little kid in the early 1970's. When they'd come on the tv I'd run and hide.

You're sending me to google once I answer this. I remember the name Sandy Becker, but in what connection? Because I really only remember Sonny Fox as the host of those shows. Becker must have moved on to something else whose name I can't remember.

OK, I've googled and see he had the eponymous Sandy Becker Show. The character Hambone is jumping out at me. That must have been the show I knew. And now my earworm is the Hambone theme....

I remember when I was a young kid my dad would pop up some popcorn, put it in the plastic wrapper that bread is sold in, and would slip it in under his coat when we went to the movies. He never got caught as far as I know. I don't know what would have happened if he had back then (the early 1970's). Of course if you tried that now and got caught you would probably be shown the door of the theater.

I guess things change... I didn't know that about theaters. I haven't been inside a movie theater since 1991...
