I'm a little confused. If their books are here on MobileRead, they must be here legally. If you know of any books which are not here legally, please let us know and we'll remove them immediately.

I think he means he found that posted somewhere else--he can't provide the url because it links to pirated materials. The posting seems to say that the publisher is all for it, however.

I'm....familiar with the site where that was posted. It seems legit, the poster also had news regarding upcoming authors on their roster and whatnot.

I think it's very cool of them. According to the poster in question the book postings came with the blessings of the author so there weren't any shenanigans going on. IMO this is really no different than Baen's free library or even bands who hand out their cd outside of concerts. Eraserhead is a pretty niche publisher of bizarro and extreme horror and most of their authors seem to come from the northwest "punk"/underground scene so this is probably right in line with their political beliefs lol. It's also pretty much how bands work these days: post their music on youtube or facebook and build an audience through sharing and word of mouth. The only caveat that was given was "hey, we don't mind if you dl our stuff, just please post a review on amazon". There have been a few other authors that gave the same stipulation. I downloaded one of the books and in fact posted a review of it on amazon. I think that's a fair exchange for the posters generosity. I have also purchased several books from this publisher in the past and will buy more in the future because the poster was cool. Last edited by xg4bx; 07-25-2011 at 01:38 AM. |

Lately the amount of trash on Amazon has increased so much that I am rarely going to shop for new books there. I simply don't have time to go through inflated reviews and everything.

Piracy sites, however, are pickier about what works they accept. Only most popular books are included and there is lower risk of disappointment. And if I like the book I can buy it on Amazon later. If guess that from publisher's point of view appearance of their books on piracy sites is a good thing as it means that people appreciate them enough to pirate and in turn pirating will increase their popularity even more. Whereas on Amazon or other retailers websites they would be lost among thousands of mediocre works. |

It's not PIRACY! If it's posted by the author or publisher it's free. It has become marketing, not anything to do with piracy.

People, people .... please don't be so anal retentive about what words a person chose to use. Context clearly shows what the writer meant. Hello linguistics...
