Your subject line had me concerned. I thought this was going to be about an attempt to alter copyright legislation to end Fair Use.

Alternate workflow - buy book - download to PC for USB transfer (pick your Kindle as the target device) - import to calibre (with a certain plugin configured with a Kindle serial number) - email to K3 |

For me I would prefer to buy an unprotected book over a DRM protected one. |

Also, as noted before, Amazon sells books that are DRM free if the publisher doesn't require it. I just bought one yesterday from Amazon tlhat had no DRM. If Amazon wanted to limit that sale to only a Kindle 4 whatever device, why would they sell it without DRM? |

So far, I guess I'll continue to do what I have been doing. I buy the book, send to kindle then through usb open documents folder and get the book dedrmed that way. That is how I've been doing it since I got my kindle. I never realized how much trouble the k4pc issue was. I just knew I could never get it to work right. I hope this blows over and they don't do anything drastic. As it is I get a lot of books from other stores as well and then crack them to work on my kindle.

I like freedom of choice and not to be locked to one store as amazon wants. If they want to play dirty, I'll just buy elsewhere or borrow from the library. (Yes I've been reading library books on the kindle for a while now hehe) I think the book industry needs to wake up and take notes from what happened to the music industry. It seems like history is repeating itself. Borders= The Wherehouse or Tower Records. It is really sad. |

Just curious how download to PC for USB transfer is different from d/l to K4PC 2. Either case puts the file on the PC. Did I misunderstand your point?

Not sure if I am correct, but the way to bypass k4pc, is to download the book to your kindle, hook the kindle to the pc and then click on it to open up the documents folder. Find the book and transfer to calibre that way as the plugins for kindle are in calibre. Thats how I do it. I just don't want to get in trouble for being too specific on the forums.
