My name is Poohbear.
I am an ebook buying addict.
My TBR list is currently so large, it can't be counted using any existing numerical system. If ebooks had weight, my Kindle would be at the center of the Earth by now.
I last bought an ebook on Saturday [ONLY 1].
I fall off the wagon frequently, but this thread always welcomes me back. [mainly b/c I keep mentioning the deals that tempted me so that others can join me and share the guilt.]
Welcome! You're among friends.

You should have known you were in trouble when seeing the name of the code.

Hi I'm Tracy, before I read this thread I thought I had an ebook buying problem, now I'm not so sure. I have 225 books on my TBR pile, I've stopped collecting freebees I've worked out there is a good chance I'll never read them.

Though I have bought 20 books this month and only read 6 of them, but I have also read 8 books bought previously.

I have just pre ordered 5 Morland Dynasty books from Amazon Cynthia Harrod-Eagles, after promising myself not to buy any more book before 1 Aug, do these count? I don't think they should as they are not coming out before 1 Aug.

Welcome to the thread, Tracy. I regret to inform you that a previous ruling is that pre-orders do count. (Either books pre-ordered before the no-buy period that arrive during the no-buy period must count, or books pre-ordered during the no-buy period that arrive after must count. My ruling was that it should be the latter that count. Otherwise people with automatic subscriptions would have to count those.)

But you can reach 1st August without buying any more ebooks. When you feel tempted, post here and we'll encourage you not to buy. Try adding the books to a wishlist instead.

As for freebies — my feeling is that there's no harm in getting them. I don't usually add them to my TBR pile. I just look on them as a way to resist actual purchases. And who knows — five or ten years down the line, I might get around to them.

I'm going to hijack the thread slightly; I hope I'm forgiven.

I don't think I have a terrible ebook problem. I used to, but with Kobo coupons being less frequent and generous, Kobo's abysmal customer service, and Random House's joining the evil cabal, I find I'm not tempted the way I once was. I'm eating away at the (rather substantial) eTBR pile and not adding much to it.

But I also have a pbook problem and that's why I'm here to pat my back. At the beginning of the year, I filled a laundry basket with unread pbooks, my goal being to finish them by year-end. I won't make it; just the same, I'm pleased and proud to report that I've read 23 of the laundry basket books and have only purchased two pbooks. Go, me.

My revised plan is to top up the laundry basket at the beginning of next year (I've got some two or three more years' worth of reading here). Any book that spends two years in the laundry basket without being read will be deaccessioned unread.

Brilliant plan! I too have a surfeit of pbooks as well, most now languishing unread as I wait for them to become available as ebooks! I just might give this a whirl!

Buying more books A true book addict recognises his/her needs... and embraces them. Anyone resisting assimilation is no true addict but just a peripheral pretender... You can never have too many books... too short a life maybe, too many unimportant things to spend money on (you know - food, clothing, a home - stuff like that) rather than using it correctly on books...

I'm afraid that I have to blame you all for instigating ebook buying peer pressure. I have bought more ebooks since this thread began than in any other single period that I have owned a Reader. I hope you are all very proud of yourselves!
