Unhappy

How come even though I have about 100 sets of knitting needles, whenever I start a new project I need a set I haven't got? Well ok not every time but always on a weekend when the knitting shop is closed.

If you have 100 sets surely you could come close enough!

Now you remind me to have a look at all the half done projects I have left in limbo for the past couple of years.

Maybe I could knit again!

Of course you could knit again. The great thing about knitting for me is that I can read while I do it.

Me, too -- having a Kindle has made it a lot easier, though!

I pretty much use only interchangeable needles now, whether I'm knitting flat or in-the-round. I bought plenty of extra cables and some extra tips in the sizes I use most, and when I get too many projects on the needles I go back and remove the needle tips and put the little caps on the ends of the cables. It's helped a lot -- I pretty much can always find the sizes I need now without having to buy more needles. (My favorite ones are the Knitpicks nickel-plated tips, although I've got the wooden tips too.)

It's odd, but I've been having the most intense urge to knit socks... I haven't any idea why, nor have I any particular need for more socks.

My grandmother taught me to knit when I was about 12, and I made myself a scarf which I wore. Very long scarves were 'in' for guys then, and I loved mine. But I never tried to knit anything else afterwards.

But that was a few years ago. So why am I having these urges now?

Socks are one of the most rewarding things to knit, and really pretty easy because your basic sock follows a straightforward set of steps: Knit cuff, knit leg, knit heel flap, turn heel, pick up stitches for gussets, knit foot (decreasing along the way until back to the original number of stitches), finish foot, knit toe. Then make another one just like it. Or even easier, knit a tube with a toe, then snip a stitch where you want the heel and unravel one row halfway around, pick up those stitches and knit another toe there. Makes a surprisingly comfortable heel.

And why am I giving knitting lessons in the vent and rant thread? Who knows?

Not exactly knitting, but since I know you do leather work, you may get a laugh over this very unprofessional job one of our less talented members (who shall remain nameless) did on an Oberon cover.

Minor rant, but this is annoying.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a new swimsuit and a pair of shorts, both the same size. If the swim trunks were any tighter, I couldn't wear them, and the shorts I can't wear at all because they're so large they fall off me.

Let's hear it for consistency in the clothing industry!

Have you had this repressed socksual urge for long, my son? Perhaps you'd like to lie down on the couch and tell me all about it?

That's easy?!! I'll stick to reading and cheek biting, methinks...

I've got them too and it's nearly solved the problem, but this time I'm knitting wrist warmers and there's not enough stitches for even the smallest cable - perish the thought that I would have to sew anything up.
