I had to go out and buy a USB external floppy reader! My tower doesn't have one and I needed some old files stored away on disks! Later on I took all my disks and burned them onto DVDs, and copied those onto external drives.

Kitty update!!

The vet said she looks healthy! Eyes, nose and ears are all fine. She's only six weeks old, so I have to wait another 2 weeks for vacinations. She gave me a paste to 'deworm' her. She's got diarrhea, but according to the vet that's because she hasn't eaten properly in a while. Good kwality kitten food should solve this. And I have to wash her today! That will be a new experience for me

Felicity doesn't like to get a bath, but once she's wet she stops fighting (never uses her claws even when still dry) and just stands there looking miserable, planning her revenge on us. She does like to play with water though, with her paws patting at puddles in the shower stall.

I just came in from my walk. Crepe myrtle trees are in full bloom here -- they are such a beautiful color! I'm glad I had something pretty to look at, because it's 75F with 85% humidity this morning, and we have an air quality alert. That nice fog effect in the picture isn't quite as nice as it seems!

Kita and Lexie don't like to be washed. The last time I had to wash Kita I was very tempted to wear my father's long welding gloves

Chinchi use to love to be showered, if my father wasn't careful she would shower with him and then curled up against my mother in bed.

Humpie loved to be bathed like a baby: in your arms and in the babybath.

Well done! Giving blood is a very good thing to do, if you are able to do so.

I've been giving blood since I was 19, so that's for nearly 30 years now. When I started we used to get called every six months. Now it's about every four months. I'm nearly up to my 50th donation, having missed some over the years due to other commitments or illness.

Sometimes I find the most painful bit is the fingertip prick to get the drop to test for haemoglobin levels.

The UK blood service is constantly trying out new techniques to make donating more efficient and safer. Recently they've taken to asking us to drink a pint of water when we arrive at the centre. Apparently this cuts down on the number of people who faint after donating.

Make bath time a fun game! Put a large puddle of warm water in the tub or sink, let the faucet drip, add toys & kitten - and let her play while you suds her up. Keep shampoo out of eyes. Rinse well and towel dry with lots of praise.

She really didn't like it, and neither did I. The poor thing was shaking like a leaf once the ordeal was over. After drying I wrapped her up in a fresh towel and held her to my chest so she could get warm. Now she's lying in her basket. I hope I don't have to do this every week ...

Bathing cats is usually only necessary for flea shampoos (you can use the spot on the neck stuff when she's old enough) or if she gets into something you don't want her to lick off. She'll learn to groom herself by watching the other cat. The older cat may or may not become friendly enough to initiate social grooming. Start brushing her too - use a soft bristle brush - to help her keep her coat groomed. Make it a "special time" between you & her.

Oh - if the diarrhea continues (deworming pastes may prolong it) - get some baby wipes to use on her rear. The older cat may not cozy up to her if she "smells" bad. Just grab her when she comes out of the litter box and give her a quick swipe for a "fresh" kitten.

Reward her with something special after any unpleasant experience - like getting candy after a vaccination shot.

We have never had to wash our kittens (they are indoor cats though), so it certainly shouldn't need to be a regular occurrence.
