Kobo needs to dump this kePub format if they hope to compete and migrate all the features to regular ePub.

some fonts it does not like - Verdana. Screen just washed out to almost nothing, but I was able to re-select a different font. One thing to note, when you delete fonts from the fonts folder, you have to do a pin reset before the font menu removes fonts no longer there.

Any other good serif font suggestions? also: now Verdana seems to be working - didn't when I first selected it. |

Funny thing after all the hoopla about how the nook gives you font choices and the kobo doesnt I have tried around 10 diff fonts on my kobo and I like the Georgia that it came with best. go figure |

Awesome Taming!! If you're having issues I found I had to turn the Kobo off then back on before they showed up. Not sure why, but once I did that it works great. EDIT: so just turning the Kobo OFF then ON also seems to get rid of removed fonts from the menu without doing a factory reset. I have found that you lose some of the on screen options in newspaper (i.e. back to article list) with some fonts. I think this seems to be related to whether they have a separate Bold, Italic file etc. Last edited by robko; 06-21-2011 at 06:32 PM. |

Wow, I was getting really excited until I read it only works for kepub files bought from the store. Very disappointing. Kobo, fix this already.

there is a totally unsupported way to get around this that was uncovered yesterday. rename the .epub file so that it is .kepub.epub and it should work, however Kobo reps highly discourage renaming files this way, so use at your own risk | |

Thanks for the tip! Why do they discourage this? It's just a simple extension renaming.

well, it sorta slipped out when they were trying to help someone else fix another problem, so it was never intended for us to use. it's possible that once it has that extension, it the device might do some weird stuff with either the book or the database itself, but I'm not sure. So while I and others have gotten it to work, need to make sure that there is a disclaimer so that the Kobo guys don't get too harassed if things do go boom |

Right now the feature is sorta half-baked. It requires a manual rename and then the covers do not work. On some of the mobile apps it is fully baked.I borked my reader and had to do a factory reset on my second go-round with it. I am not sure what happened, but I think that even though I did a proper "eject", the processing might not have been done with the renamed book on my SD card. Or it could have been the universe getting even. Or something.

I am now wondering if there is a difference between changing the extension BEFORE adding it to the Kobo or changing it on the device. I'm willing to wait to have the fully baked version, at this point.

I would think that changing it before adding is the way to go, as that allows the device to process it right the first time.
