				Touch 1.9.4 is fontilicious

So, odd person that I am, and replacement Touch (oh, the joy) in hand, I wondered if it might be possible that the code for adding in our own fonts was there, even if the choice doesn't appear on a menu yet. It is! Attach your Kobo Touch (running 1.9.4) by USB so you can manage it as a device. Create a "fonts" directory off of the root. I don't think it actually matters if it is Fonts or fonts. Copy and paste the fonts you want (TTF or OTF) from your computer's fonts directory into the new fonts directory on your Kobo. After you eject the reader, the fonts should appear in the "Aa" menu. I have added two so far, but when this feature was announced, we were told we could have 6 I think. It may be that the default fonts count toward whatever limit we have. A littke experimentation will tell . I'm a serif fan for reading, and so far, I'm loving palatino linotype the best. OK, I'm loving Bookman Old Style the best now. It wasn't--not yet. We knew more fonts were coming, but did not if Kobo would pick them, or if we could choose them ourselves.

user defined font, no ghosting, user choice for full refresh. Take that nook and Kindle Time for the lame A$$ reviewers to take another look. Perhaps a bit over exuberant it didnt work for me Last edited by baronrus; 06-20-2011 at 10:05 PM. |

Same build but it didnt work for me? I used windows explorer, made a fonts directory and copied one font in, ejected and no change. Did you make your folder in the .kobo file folder? |

Create fonts directory. See where below. Paste your fonts into the directory. You will then see something like this in it. Eject the reader (safely) and then look in the Aa menu. |

If you look and see how large the font files are, it makes perfect sense why you would not want to embed fonts within individual book files. Loading a bunch "just in case" doesn't seem like a terrific choice either. This is pretty good, IMO.
