Sorry to hear it. Must be a terrible way to go. Glad to hear you are off the smokes (I gave up in my mid-twenties and have never looked back).

I think it's the shell of a tiny horseshoe crab. It caught my attention because of its size -- you see horseshoe crabs washed up fairly often, but they are as big as a diinner plate or bigger. I've never seen one this small. No animal in it, so maybe they molt their shells as they grow? I need to look it up...

Edit: I looked it up. Yep, they molt as they grow, so this is a molted shell.

Congratulations!!!! It's not easy to stop smoking. If you really want to see some interesting stuff... plug your quit date into the 'SilkQuit' meter...
Mine tells me I've saved over $42,000 since I stopped smoking...
Well, actually, I've spent that on other stuff, but that's how much I 'would have burn up' if I didn't put down cigarettes! 12 years, 10 months, three weeks, and one day ago!

Thanks for that link, Stitchy. I sent it to my sister. Will probably just make her angry. But she smokes like a chimney and will not tolerate any discussion regarding stopping. She looks like a mummy, like a smoked chicken, with that long time smoker's skin. And her husband chews tobacco, which is even grosser.

I like this conversation on smoking. I've never smoked before, but to be honest, I've been really tempted to start smoking while I was still studying, due to stress. I didn't though, I'm asthmatic and smoking would be detrimental to my health, plus I heard all those horror stories about the effects od smoking, so I've been kind of scared off it. That, and my parents would probably throw me out of the house if I did start.

I'm currently surfing the Internet aimlessly while deciding whether to play Guild Wars or Second Life.

I "traded in" my iPad 1 to Amazon and just got an Asus Transformer. It was a beautiful tablet, but I grew to hate the iPad - being tethered to a PC running that blasted bloated iTunes, no connectors for USB or SD card, etc.
Unpacked the TF last night, charged it up, it found my wifi network, updated the Honeycomb OS - and started to play. The virtual keyboard is loads easier to use than the iPad's was, and I'm having a ball playing on it.

oh. I've never seen one. there's an old saying in my country about newlyweds: they stick with each other like horseshoe crabs (though I don't know if horseshoe crabs really stick with each other...)

I just saw a pregnant woman smoking on the street. She's about to give birth to her baby, and I had that urge to tell her to stop poisoning her child.

The fad around whte I used to live is chain-smoking pregnant girls. They want small babies. I talk to them, but they just roll their eyes and stuff.

I say, "What would your boyfriend think?" but that just makes me even more of an interfering old crazy lady.

I enjoyed watching my neighbour across the street getting out the sandbags again to stop the rainwater flooding her café. All the while she's complaining about that the council doesn't do enough to keep the drainages clear. IMHO it was partially her own fault: she keeps sweeping cigarette butts and other stuff from her terrace into the drainage. When it rains regularly it get washed away, but it has been really dry the last couple of months so I expect all the the debris (especially the filters from the cigarettes) has become one big clump. She also knows that the last time the paved the street paved they did it wrong and that all the rain water from the street runs directly into her café. Combine the two with heavy rainfall (for Dutch standards) and it's quite an entertaining thing to watch for a while.

That meter, along with the Usenet group alt.support.stop-smoking, was the best 'bio-feedback'device I've ever known. The meter sits as a little applet on the computer so you see it every time you sit down, and watching it grow just gives you sooooo much reinforcement not to smoke.

I smoked a pack and a half a day for 42 years, non-filtered menthol 'Kool,' and probably like most smokers, tried to quit a hundred different times. Now I do it like AA... One day at a time. I didn't 'quit.' I'm still a smoker, but one who hasn't smoked in almost 12 years, 10 months, 3 weeks, and two days ago. I won't smoke today. I pray I won't smoke tomorrow.

Stopping was much easier than 'staying stopped.'

Here's a little trick for you, Aladyleyna...
The thing about smoking that reduces stress is called by scientists; 'the sighing breath response.' It's what smokers do with the first one or two drags on a cigarette... draw in a deep breath of smoke, hold it an extra second or two, then slowly let it out. It's relaxing. But.... here's the tip...

IT IS JUST AS RELAXING DOING THE SAME THING WITHOUT THE SMOKE!
Try it yourself. Deep breath, hold, slowly release... relax.

Save a lot of money. Save your health. Smell better to other people. Have whiter teeth. And in S'pore, don't have problems with the police for smoking in the street!
