LOL At my last job the employees would do that to the training computers. Fortunately, we had security cameras back there, so I would track down the offender and make them hold the monitor (somewhat heavy CRT) while I fixed it. (Stupid generic video cards had no shortcut keys, and permissions couldn't be set, so all users had access to that setting from the desktop context menu.)

Minor rant: It's Monday and I'm not ready for the weekend to be over.

You are talking ebook, right? Not on hold? Get the library book. If you are collecting the author you can get it later.

I've had mostly good experiences with buying used books from 3rd party sellers on Amazon. Once I bought a book advertised in good condition that was like new. Of course, another time a book advertised in good condition arrived with yellowed pages and writings in the margins, so you never know. Hope you have good luck, wherever you buy from.

thanks! i browsed through B&N, Borders, and Amazon. the first two had cheaper used copies, but some sellers on amazon had the tag "fulfilled by amazon" at a slightly higher price. besides the fact that it's eligible for amazon free shipping, i wonder if that tag offers some other guarantee of some sort. the sellers did make notes of the condition of the book, but i wish i could get some photographic evidence or something.

In addition to the shipping advantage (because Amazon does the warehousing and order fulfillment), it also means that Amazon handles the order support - so if there's a problem you will be able to deal with Amazon instead of the third-party seller.

sounds great i really, really want to get my hands on a copy of The God in Flight by Laura Argiri methinks it's the hard-to-get factor xP

oh, and before i forget, i want to relay this sort of funny yet frustrating encounter with a classmate (we will tag this person as CM) when i brought my kindle with me to school yesterday:

me: *reading on kindle*
CM: *sees me* *asks me where i bought it*
me: on amazon. you can hardly find anyone selling them here
CM: Oh...do you download your books or buy them? (note: here in our country, to "download" means to get it from the darknet)
me: um...no, i buy my books or borrow them or get them for free in giveaways and contests and such. well, it depends on what types of books you want to read.
CM: how about harry potter?
me: i don't think there's a legal ebook copy of that yet. but it's harry potter. our library has it. why not just borrow there?
CM: oh well...it's heavy
me: *speechless* *glances at the 7 books in my book bag that i took out from the library earlier*

take note that we pay library fees as part of our miscellaneous fees every term. why this person is not taking advantage of that, i do not know @_@

Nah! It's a global feline conspiracy. Ever since laptops & tablets & ereaders have displaced cats from laps, they've been plotting their comeback! This is but the first wave of their evil plan! Disable the electronic usurpers of the coveted lap!
