Request Handwrite Recognition

Tried this and doesn't work. Onenote needs stroke information to recognize the handwritting. Won't work if you just put a pdf there (unless it is printed text).

If those notes really need to be searchable you can send them to your computer, print to one note, convert, save in PDF format and send back to your Edge. OK, I see, I forgot those notes written on the edge and saved as a PDF are really a PDF image. Bummer. Well the possibility exists for future versions of Android, and new software apps are developed all the time.

An edge Journal file is a gzip'd compressed XML text file. The text describes the strokes. We only need some clever person to understand what is in the text file and convert it to something another handwriting recognition program would use.

I generated a test file in Journal that looks something like this:

(Well' it looked kinda orange to me.) Inside the file it calls this color "yellow".

Yes I tried as a pdf and it didn't work on onenote. In any case I don't think onenote would understand esj format either.

As kenjennings said we need to figure out how to convert esj into something some handwritting program can read.

Wished we had some documentation on that esj format. Is this some sort of standard way to keep strokes information? or is this something particular to the EE.

That's four separate strokes to write the word "Red". One vertical line for the capital "R" and another stroke for the right side of the "R". One continuous stroke for "e". And one continuous stroke for the "d". (that means the the vertical line in the "d" is drawn [wastefully] twice once going up and again going down in one motion. So, I'm a lazy bum.)

Assuming these are X/Y coordinates, it looks like the non-smooth line drawing mode (continuously?) grabs coordinates from the pen. It's a rather dense data set.

Re-gzip the file, copy it to the edge, open the test Journal file, and whaddya know -- The edge renders a line of text on the eInk page in an arial-like font that says, "Magenta TEXT". When I use the camera to snapshot it to the LCD, it is actually displayed in Magenta. Kewl.

Since the version number in the header of the edge journal file seems to be at least 0.4, I figured I'd give it a shot and edited the file, adding:

<text font="SanSerif" size="16" x="100.00" y="100.00" color="magenta">
Magenta TEXT
</text>

Re-gzip the file, copy it to the edge, open the test Journal file, and whaddya know -- The edge renders a line of text on the eInk page in an arial-like font that says, "Magenta TEXT". When I use the camera to snapshot it to the LCD, it is actually displayed in Magenta. Kewl.

I found an easy way to search notes made in the journal. If you send the notes to evernote as an image (I tried png format) they become searchable. In theory you can send a pdf as well (at least from windows) but I think you need to pay for the premium account in order to make it searchable.

Wouldn't it be cool if we could sync the notes directly from the journal with evernote? Maybe a partnership between EE and evernote?

Being able to ink notes on eDGe and sync to evernote would be KEWL!

Thanks for that info, it will help a bit when I'm studying.

Add my +1 to this. Also would like to be able to type notes on the eink side as well as write them (this may already be a possibility though, I'm not sure).
