Setting up my new gadget, the kindle3. It looks very nice, indeed, by all means, no doubts.

Ooooo - purty lace! I bought a tatting shuttle once. Probably still have it. Somewhere. Are there instructions online? (Prob a dumb question! *Everything* is online!)

I went through voir dire for a case, but ended up not getting selected so I've done my duty, at least until I get called again! Yippee!

I used to take knitting with me because sometimes there are long periods of down time, but we had a shooting in this courthouse (the Brian Nichols case) a few years ago in which a judge and several other people were killed, and security is tight now. Sometimes you can get knitting needles in, and sometimes you can't, so I put a tatting shuttle in my pocket and made a little bit of lace today. Jury duty is a great place for people watching, so even though I had my Kindle with me I never did any reading. A woman in the row ahead of me was reading on one, though.

Our area is very strict also, but we are allowed to bring in newspapers and paperbooks/magazines. They frown on bringing things electronic.

Do you like to tat? I never could get into it, but my mom and I made a million lace dollies (until we couldn't give anymore away. ). During the winter, I crochet blankets then tear them apart and start again (no one we know needs any more). We did the same with quilting. I don't even like to use the dollies, crochet blankets, or quilts in my house, but I like making them.

Google a bit -- around here there is a club crocheting (or knitting or .....) lap blankets, caps, and etc for cancer sufferers. You could give them your work instead of ripping them apart! Find some info first, tho, because they prefer soft yarns for bare cancer heads, and other details like that.

P.S. There must be a number of tornado victims who don't have an afghan any more, too.

Over on Ravelry, the notion of "process" vs. "product" is debated a lot. It sounds as if you are like me -- it's the process of making stuff that appeals to me usually, not the finished product. Tatting is like that. I enjoy doing it, probably because it's very portable and doesn't take much concentration if you're just doing the simple stuff, which is all I know how to do anyway.

I agree with "process" vs "product". I enjoy crocheting and cross stitching -- but I won't wear crochet clothes and I rarely hang my cross stitch pics! Usually an afghan can find a recipient though; then again, it's too hot to make during the summer.

Just started a cross stitch which I do plan to use --- and spent 3 evenings putting in a color which I now determine was a TYPO in the instructions. Sigh. I went to the shop to find a color which would better match the picture .... and the color I chose turns out to be 3608 instead of 3806 (or vice versa; I forget). So I spent 2 evenings ripping out the large area I had already done. Sigh!!

I used to love to cross stitch. We salvaged a couple of them and a prize-winning afghan that I made. Oh yes, and one quilt. Those will go into the new home as soon as we move in.

Betty, your tatting is lovely. I knew a woman who tatted baby booties for new babies. She tried to teach me, but it was hopeless.

silly

i don't know. i'm just really happy right now. xP

speaking of vibrating, in the recent books i've read, a countless number of authors keep using that word in the phrase "vibrating with happiness/joy/any other happy emotion what have you" o_O

Just before the rain yesterday, I built a dirt sifter. Today I was sifting the rocks out of the dirt for the flower garden that's going next to the walkway I built for the pool. I'll probably finish that phase tomorrow, then begin sanding the sidewalk with a brick.

I sure am glad I'm not paying me by the hour!

Good idea. I'll let mom know that we will start putting all our work in a box and donate when it is full.

Totally true. I love to make the stuff and that's it. Crochet is perfect in the winter to curl up, watch a movie, and just crochet. I don't have to pay too much attention when making a blanket. I know what you mean about having to rip out and start again. Sometimes when string crocheting, I don't pay enough attention to the count and have to start again.

Not in the rain.

I'm curled up right now with a cup of hot tea. It's cold out and I think I've caught a cold.

Lowe's rents a hand-held grinder for $37/day. The diamond disk costs an additional $50. I'll polish it by hand with a brick. It only needs to be smooth enough for bare feet.

And I told you that outfit was stunning!
