What I don't like is when you put someone on ignore, it simply hides the body of their post. You still see their post, just not the text of it. That bugs me still.

I also believe that not sharing is just as wrong as refusing to share, they are slightly different but similar.
For instance, I have a book that contains knowledge, I should make an effort to share it with as many as possible so that the knowledge can spread, there is no argument, logical or otherwise that can refute this. Unfortunately we are not allowed to post books on the network "openly"... |

The "noise" you would add to the body of knowledge makes your concept of sharing not much different than lighting your book on fire. Because we'll all inhale some of the burnt molecules.

Not sure what you mean by that, except perhaps as a reference to the collective consciousness. I do agree that more and better filters are needed.

Why do people bother responding to him? Surely you do realise he isn't going to change his mind, and he doesn't have any actually clever ideas, he just wants to share all books, because he thinks that shares all knowledge. Compensation? A donate button.
There are no new and interesting ideas here. (Having said that, I find it quite amusing, which is why i'm still reading) |

Giggleton, if you so strongly believe that books should be free, I urge you to write lots and lots of original new books on every subject conceivable which contain thoughts which no one else has ever had.
Once you've done this for every subject conceivable, you can start in on writing a version of every fiction story, then you could write some sonnets and cover all other forms of poetry. They'll be more likely to be readable if they don't suffer from the painful naiveté which your original post in this thread evinced. |

What does it mean to write a book? There is only one book, it contains everything that has been, is, and will be written.

Fine then, you write that book, w/o reference to anyone else's work (save for what is in the public domain or creative commons) and publish it. In the meanwhile, I'll keep working on the manuscript an editor at Addison-Wesley has asked of me. |

Our society asks you to place a copy of your book in the national library so that everyone may have access to it, we can now make an infinite number of copies at near zero cost, this means everyone will indeed have access to all books. Unfortunately big pub and others have wasted oodles of resources trying to convince society that the sharing of knowledge is wrong, it's weird I know, but that's what went down. It seems to me that those who wish to control access to information have motives other than the advancement of society as their goal. |

Giggleton, If you choose to make a copy of anything which I've written or published, you can take it up with my lawyer --- there's nothing which you've written thus far which justifies your not respecting anyone's decision to copyright their works.
If you really feel that society can be advanced be endlessly sharing information, then you should start creating information which others find worth reading. Nothing you've written thus far has been worth reading, nor has it refuted or addressed anyone else's points. Mere repetition will make a chorus, but it doesn't defend or justify ideas. When you've posted a new and original work and shared it gratis, you'll be removed from my killfile. :: plonk :: |
