Yeah, those numbers don't pass the sniff test for global numbers. US numbers... maybe? I have a hard time believing it.

Hope you enjoy it even with its shortcomings! You've been talking about needing a new e-ink reader since you sold your 900, and I know you had higher hopes for the new Nook. But, the selection is what it is for the time-being.

It is getting too warm & humid to sit outside in the day-time, but you can still use your e-ink reader poolside at this time of year. I am thinking of getting one of those plastic cases for my K3 so I can read it while floating in the pool!

I ordered my new nook today, after trying it at b&n (they didn't have them in stock). I was very impressed overall. The touchscreen was very responsive and ePub format was important to me. I'll continue to use my iPad at home, but am happy to have a cheap stick-it-in-my-pocket device to carry around this summer.

USA market. I never said world market.

You get upset about Amazon being claimed at 65% but don't care about B&N being claimed at 25%? Your prejudice is showing.

In fairness, Jack, you didn't say where the figures referred to, and on a world-wide forum such as this that is rather confusing.

when I try to open books purchased at Sony's Reader store I get:

That would seem to indicate that the nook is not registered to the same ADE account that the Sony is.

You need to activate your NC on Adobe Digital Editions to the same Adobe ID as your Sony. Then you will be able to read your books from the Sony store.

Are we supposed to be upset about the B&N 25% number? That sounds reasonable to me -- weren't the Nook and Nook Color devices making sales records last year?

I don't think it's a fanboi statement to look at that post you made and go (a) that has to be the US market and (b) a quarter of the market for B&N sounds about right. That still leaves 75% for Amazon, Kobo, and Sony, not to mention the smaller retailers.

Actually, I read an IDC article a few months ago that Pandigital sold had better numbers than Nook Color. It was an article about tablets and LCD devices, no eink.

On a similar but different article, IDC as well, shows on sold devices (no book titles) Amazon keeps having the lead on Europe and of course, USA. And device numbers are easy to track because those numbers are provided by retail stores.

Both articles doe not mention about titles sold but I think it's a fair assumption to say that titles sold are comparable numbers maybe.

actually the Pandigital was estimated to be number 2 only for the third quater of 2010 not for total yearly sales and even then these numbers are all estimations since neither Amazon nor Barnes and Noble release hard sales figures.

You do also have to take into account the Nook color was realeased at the very tail end of the 3rd Quarter of 2010 as well.

The sales figures for Amazon are for it's worldwide sales and Pandigital and BN are only US only, so you can take that for what it's worth in terms of the size of market share for Amazon vs the rest.

Be interesting to have a solid numbers for the US only between the kindle and the nook, I'm willing to bet it's much closer than people think.

but at any rate, any success of the Pandigital is a boost to Barnes and Noble ebook sales, since Barnes and Noble's ebookstore is the Pandigital's bookstore platform.

Having the new nook over the past few days I have to give the lofty impression that this is the best E-ink device I've had. The Kindle 3 was just too large and hard to hold with that useless keyboard, the Sony 350 is a bit too small and still has a lot of waster real estate. The Nook Simple has a great , large screen and no wasted space, its easy to hold and use, it really feels like a book from its shape and size. Very Happy with it. They finally got it right.

You didn't say USA only. And if the Amazon numbers are a guess and probably wrong, it's obvious that the B&N numbers are bogus as well. I'm sorry, but these sorts of articles cannot be taken as gospel. They are a guess from unknown sources. And besides, the article is total garbage. Sorry, but I don't go in for such guessing and the fact that it totally treats the USA as it's the only place eBooks are sold is wrong. I'm sorry you got taken by that article and then went on to quote it like it was all true.
