Congratulations! That seems like a very good weight for your height.

I still have a couple of kg to go to get to my target of 70kg for my 180cm. Once I get there I might consider going a little bit lower, but not much. Certainly not below 67kg, which was my weight when I was in my early 20s.

I've had a bread-maker for the past year and a half. (The Panasonic one.) It's been splendid. Five minutes to put the ingredients in the machine in the evening, and fresh bread in the morning...

Today's was white bread with linseeds... Yum.

The one drawback is that it's hard to resist eating more than I intend to eat. :-)

My partner shares your height and has his weight down to between 67 and 68kg, and is holding steady. Because we eat similar, and exercise the same, he's looking to find the holding-pattern dietary changes that we'll both take to. We could probably do better with dairy, and certainly the CSIRO-recommended nuts, so we'll probably add some nuts into an afternoon snack of yoghurt, and go from there.

He's pretty happy with his weight. It's his lightest, and having nearly died from a massive heart attack a bit over 20 years ago, while at a weight that was exceeding obese (and a lifestyle that was binging in the off hours and highly stressful in on-hours), his contentment is paramount to me more than my own weight [insert degree of personal guilt here].

Yes, I've been looking at breadmakers, and do have one picked if I decide to go that route. It's awareness that my time is rather cheap now, and slow food is my "in" to cooking (I'm not a great cook, so all things that take time - slow-cookers, relishes, jams, preserves, casseroles, et cetera are sort-of along my line). So though we've even got the means to mechanically kneed the dough, I'm looking at getting my hands dirty...err, floury, instead, just to see. I do love me some bread, and it's my only dietary craving (and that's including my loves of icecream and the deep-fryer).

You're welcome to place a wager on me buying a machine sometime in the future though.

Oh, and BTW, Iridal...WOOOOOOOOOO! Goodonyamate!

Cheers,
Marc

Thanks everyone, I'm really happy I started losing weight because I wanted to run longer distances and was a little too heavy for that, not because I was overweight. But now I feel fantastic If I have to judge by other people's reactions: 4 months ago I got honked at 1 or 2 times while walking to work. I'm at 4 to 5 times right now

I bake my own bread too, but instead of my hand I use a Kenwood food processor to kneed the dough the first time. Then I kneed and shape the dough a second time myself after it has risen for about 30 minutes. I ate bread from a breadmachine once, but it had a hole in the middle from where the bread had been 'attached' to the machine. I though that was a little stupid. (This was a couple of years ago though.) That's why I decided to go with the Kenwood instead of a breadmaker.

LOL! I am beginning to look like the girl in my head. Except that I am not blonde. The girl in my head is normal sized and blonde.

Beware! That smell from a breadmaker is irresistable. Tim and I could split a loaf and a stick of butter. That and nothing e lse was a perfect dinner!

Needing new shorts is a big deal. I have 5 shorts and 5 tops, all a month old. Cheap Walmart stuff. But they are becoming ridiculously baggy. We are constantly walking/swimming/running and just grabbing light meals. For example, yesterday at the beach, lunch was an apple and some pretzels.

This is the sole drawback to a bread-maker. For me, it's far out-weighed by the convenience.

Occasionally I do use it just to produce dough, usually to make rolls. The machine does the initial mixing and first rise, and I do the shaping, second rise and baking.

I haven't bought bread in months. For a while I was using my breadmaker every time I needed a loaf, but I'm in my corn tortilla phase right now, lol. They seem to take the place of bread with just about everything I'm eating these days, and they are so much fun to make. When I do need a loaf, though, I make a whole grain bread with the bread machine.

You guys google a recipe for Ezekiel bread. It is well worth the effort of finding the ingredients. And be sure to read the background story.

it's brilliant of you to be sacrificing yourself now for TLO, Marc, though I'm sure you'll deny that you are sacrificing anything. Good on ya. I wish I had a similarly positive effect on my wife. She will lose some and then put it all back on. She's eating healthier but occasionally falls off the wagon, particularly when I'm out of town. And she deplores even the simplest of exercises, like walking around the block. I'm flummoxed. She now has some back pain which is preventing her from even trying and is a convenient excuse, too.

Technically I'm always on a diet in that I have to watch what I eat (carbs, salt, cholesterol) due to type 1 diabetes. It isn't easy either I can tell you. One day you eat a given food and your sugars are good and another day you eat the same thing and you either end up low or high.

I'm on a see-food diet. I don't like it, but to keep pace with the pregnant lovelyladywife, I gotta shovel it down.

So about 2 months ago I decided to lose another 3 or 4 kilograms. But I'm getting really demotivated. I've only lost 1,3 kg since the last time I had to go to the dietitian (5 weeks ago)! That's about half of what I normally lose in 5 weeks. It's so frustrating, because I'm still following my food plan to the letter. It sucks

I have been increasing my work-outs though. I'm halfway through a schedule towards 10km jogging. Instead of 3x30min running, I now run 40 to 50 minutes 3 times a week, and one of these sessions is always a very intensive interval training. Is it possible that I haven't been losing weight because of this? Maybe I'm building more muscle? Because I feel like I have 'shrunk' some more, but that could just be wishful thinking.

Then again, when I go shopping I have to buy XS, whereas before the diet I usually had a M

I would guess muscle. It would be good if you look at bodyfat measurements, as then you'd have a better idea. Also, as you lose weight I believe you need to reduce your intake to continue losing at the same speed. Perhaps you're just starting to approach an actual RDI (but not there yet, still losing, which is good). My partner's weight did that. His graph is a slow curve from steepness to level.

I went from XL to now XS (and buying stuff in the Boys' sections). It's hard on the wallet.

I'm now at 59kg, which is where I want to sit (under 60kg actually, but 59kg gives me a buffer). We did our longest ride yesterday (60km/37mi), which felt pretty good. It hurt, but not enough to swear off doing it again.

Cheers,
Marc
