Is it really that bad? I was thinking up upgrading from Vista.

It's pretty bad. I had a laptop with Vista (now stolen). Tim had a laptop with Win7 (now airborne).

I made sure to keep an old desktop running XP in the spare bedroom for whenever I needed to do something serious that needed to be done right.

Amen to that. I am clinging to XP - you can get stuff done right away. I have Win7 on 2 netbooks - don't really like it at all. Waiting for either the ASUS Transformer to become widely available or for the fabled Amazon Android tablet to appear.

Me,too. I actually had another laptop with Vista on it, and hated it. I loaned it to my niece indefinitely. It kept me stressed out the whole time I used it. This little netbook that I use all the time has XP, no bells and whistles, just gets the job done.

Out of necessity, I became pretty proficient on Win7. Which is to say, with lots of experience, I could type a letter with only half a dozen searches for basic features. Finding "font" should not require that sort of profanity!

Well, my Nano is not the latest gen. but the one before that. I got it wet a couple of times and dropped it a lot so it was pretty hardy for me. I think I've had it for about 2 years.

Yuck. I was hoping Windows 7 would be an improvement over Vista.

My Sansa Clip works great for audiobooks and it's a lot cheaper than an iPod. I also use it when I don't want to take my iPod - I have a Classic and while I love it, it's not good for all situations.

I'm starting to think I'm the only person who doesn't have issues with Vista. Guess I got lucky. I have two XP laptops, two Vista laptops and one Win7 desktop. The desktop is mostly for entertainment and work that needs a lot of horsepower (graphics/video editing, etc).

Rant: DSL still not back on after Monday night's storms. It's just a general rant, though. Not blaming AT&T. Their crews have been working long hours for a few days, there's just a lot of stuff to fix. So I guess I'm blaming the storms. I'd send a big thank you to the owner of this unsecured wireless network, if I knew who it was. They are unknowingly saving my sanity.

That is an interesting option. It certainy is cheaper! I was considering upgrading to an iPod Touch, so I would have another eReader as well as my Kobo WiFi in addition to the music but the Sansa is way cheper and I may need to save $ because it looks like I'll need a new compu soon. I like these things I see with the Sansa:

1. You can "see" what you are doing, unlike with my Shuffle (there is a little screen, you can scroll down a list of albums, artists, etc.)

2. It has more memory than my Shuffle.

3. It clips on like the Shuffle, right?

One question, does it work with iTunes?

2. And expandable with a microSD card.

3. Yes, it has a clip.

iTunes - no, but you can just use "drag and drop" in explorer. For more functionality, you can use it with something like MediaMonkey (which I love, and has a free version). It should work fine with Winamp and others too. It comes with Rhapsody but I can't use Rhapsody because it does not support the composer tag, which I use with my large collection of classical music.

Oh, it also has a radio, which I thought didn't matter but it turns out I use it.

Oh, gee. I even forgot to ask that and I often listened to the NPR Saturday line-up on the radio of my Nano when I did my weekend errands and chores. Yay. I think I'm going to do the Sansa thing. I don't need more than one eReader, I guess, and that Touch is a bit over 200 and, thus, (at least most) of the cost of a netbook.

Also, I think dropping and dragging in Explorer will be fine for me. I don't like to "sync," anyway. I have always manually managed my library.

Hmmm, I didn't know that, thanks. Actually it is a federal agency (military commissary store) that was charging me. I began always stipulating "debit" when buying groceries there to avoid the charge. I think I'll try "credit" again and see what happens, and complain if they're still doing it.

Of course it's that bad! When we - that is to say, I and windows7 - first met, I had a whole day stumbling around, trying to find where regular, normal stuffs were. And when it came to the Office 2007, or Office 2010... simply WOW. It totally "blew my mind", literally or not. It's been months now and still I'm a mess whenever I have to find things.

1. It's 5th gen, is it? Same as mine, then. Mine is 1.5 years old. Do you have any problem with clickwheel?

2. Sure it's an improvement over Vista, but still a mess nonetheless.

5 computers, am I the only one to consider that a bit too many for one single person?
