I see the icon, trying to IMPORT Kindle Collections in to Calibre, it if course tells me to create another column, done that, reloaded, and still getting that message. Trying to go into Preferences again to see what's up with the column, and getting CANNOT CONFIGURE BEFORE CALIBRE IS RESTARTED.


EDIT: Got past that.... created colum called x_collection...

More EDIT: imported collection data, using that column, and it didn't. And even on the Kindle side, the two collections I have, only one of them is showing up in Calibre. The other Thomas Covenant books aren't appearing to be in a collection, yet they are on the Kindle device.

TY for your help, gonna give this up as a bad job, shouldn't be this troublesome. Gonna just use tags etc to sort things on Calibre, and copy across a very small amount of books at any one time.

Well I can see you putting this to one side with the issues you've had. If you want to revisit it, you can PM with details to be checked.

It should import the collections you have on the Kindle. If you run View Report do you see any warnings about problem books that might need fixing? If you run Edit collections, do you see all your books in the collections you expect to see them (View and Edit just read the data directly from the Kindle regardless of what's in calibre).

And if by only 1 collection showing up in Calibre, you mean on the Devices tab, then its a known issue that the Devices tab doesn't show all collections. If you mean on the import, then the view or edit might give more info there, but it might require more debugging/detailed reports.

But if you are going to use tags to build your collections, then you can use the plugin to create collections on the kindle based on your tags. And that would open another set of questions

OK, been tearing my hair, out, it's creating all my collections from Calibre TO Kindle, as required, but they're all empty.

Tried removing plugin, reinstalling it.

(Wasn't even let me go into preferences, had to enter debug mode to circumvent that.)

Here we go..... rebooted Kindle.....


YAY!



BTW, I trust the Kindle reboot is only required if making new Collections? If I have more books to add, that's fine?

Debug mode to get into Preferences. Wow, it sounds jinxed Great to see it working.

Restart of the Kindle is required any time you create a collection or add/remove a book to a collection. Its the way the Kindle is built, and its a pain, but we seem stuck with it unless Amazon change it in their firmware.

Just copied new books across, but forgot the CREATE collection bit, so cheers, again.

What are your settings and what collections were you expecting that you are not getting - run Preview and attach the output that shows settings and the collections generated. If you want to limit your Preview output, in customize you can just select one book by putting its name in the include file, or write up an example, or PM me with the output.

I have a bunch of books (>400). I want some of them to be in a collection called "aa current" or "aa STR SciFi". So, I went into Calibre, and edited the column called kindle collections. And now there is an book where the column entry is: recent lit John Steinbeck,aa Current.

I created kindle collections, and restarted the kindle. The collection aa Current is created, and has the one book (Grapes of Wrath) in it. But the book did not show up in "Recent Lit John Steinbeck".

Bizarre, worked for a collection of tags, went further t try to do series as well and it stopped working - preview now shows zero files being put into collections, but the collections are being made, just empty.

reinstalled plugins, no joy.

uninstalled and reinstalled calibre, working now, i'm using series this time. Doesn't sort by the order of the series at all. Bit flaky overlal this experience.


EDIT: When I go into customise again, and do the preview, the colections are being crested again, but again WITHOUT any content, all zeroes. Thoughts?

EDIT 2: Reinstall Calibre again, all working, don't even have to reinstall plugins.

Yet, when I need t do another Preview or Create, ZERO books in collections again.


Lastly: wasted half a day on this, argh!

I have looked everywhere for the plugin and cant find it. please help me !

Calibre is so confusing to me. I have 2 computer degrees and I find this so hard to use. lol

I get the following error when trying to edit the settings, I do not know if I messed something up because I switched libraries to work on my husband's kindle. I tried uninstalling the plugin and reinstalling but the error doesn't go away, any thought how to fix it?

I know exactly what you mean. But to get the plugin look on the first page of this topic, there are instructions there on how to install the plugin.

By PM the output I mean to use the private message facility of Mobile read - if you click on the forum name for a post one of the entries is to send a PM. You read these by going to the User CP link at the top of page and clicking private messages.

You need to run Preview in the plugin and then click Show Details on the dialog when it finishes. The Preview lists the settings you have for Customize and the results. I'd like to see that information. If it doesn't contain anything you don't want shown, you can post it here.

This sounds like a problem reported a short while ago - where the plugin is not getting the list of books from calibre and so it just creates the collections. Its not clear what is causing this and I need to figure out how to debug it. I will have to post an updated version that tries to catch this error and stop the preview/create so that it doesn't confusion.

Yep, that's in the Modify menu item. But it shouldn't give an error. I'll post a new version with a fix. Thanks for reporting it.
