That's what should happen.

What are your settings and what collections were you expecting that you are not getting - run Preview and attach the output that shows settings and the collections generated. If you want to limit your Preview output, in customize you can just select one book by putting its name in the include file, or write up an example, or PM me with the output.

When I installed the plugin, I made the mistake of having it appear in a small menu bar above the main one. The problem is, when I connect my Kindle, the plugin seemingly disappears. How do I change the appearance option, or how do I find the options for this plugin? Yes, I've tried uninstalling it.

Go to Preferences -> Toolbar and select one of the drop down menus "The main toolbar when a device is connected" or "The menubar when the device is connected". Then click on the Kindle Collections icon on the left, click on the right arrow to add it to that toolbar and save.

The menubar entry (thats the small text menu at the top above the main menu) and toolbar icon will disappear once the Kindle is connected because there are 2 sets of menus - one when there is no device connected, and one when there is a device connected.

Icon won't appear on any menu at all. It's installed, tried adding it to main toolbar, but MANAGE COLLECTIONS SEEMS to have been added to toolbar when a device is connected. Only, it's actually nowhere to be seen.

The plugin icon name is Kindle Collections. Manage Collections can only be used for other ereaders, that's why there is a special plugin for Kindles

Cheers - I've followed the instructions to thet letter and simply don't see the "Kindle Collections icon in Calibre".

Is the plugin definitely installed?
go to Preferences->Plugins
then expand User Interface Action plugins
is Kindle Collections in the list - what version?

If it is in the list, then
go to Preferences->Toolbar
change the drop down box that says 'The main toolbar' to 'The main toolbar when a device is connected'
look in the icon list on the left or the right (you might have to scroll each list)
do you see Kindle Collections?

A mystery. Have you tried changing the drop down men to other settings? Can you screenshot the toolbar preferences window and post it - to see what is selected?

That is definitely odd. And you've said you've uninstalled and re-installed. Well, Calibre does retain some information about the plugin between runs. Before we try to edit that file can you test another plugin.

Can you try installing one of the other plugins and see if you get their icon in your preferences->toolbar to select?

And just to recheck - do you have the 'Kindle Collections' menu in the text menubar above the main toolbar? If so, when you select 'menubar' in preferences->toolbar you should see the icon in the list.

1. tested a goodreads addon, to sync things there, and getting an error message re: having to restart calibre before I can configure it.

2. I have no text menubar.

Sorted. Both yours and the GoodReads plugins now appear to be there - uninstalled Calibre, downloaded from alt. location, installed it. No further need to reinstall plugins they just appear to work. TY for your help!
