Has anyone met or fallen in love with their partner through MR?

When I first told my wife that I loved her on IRC, I just kind of blurted it out in PM. It was not something I was planning on doing. It just happened.

My experience has been that people that you meet online, if you talk to them long enough, tend to be exactly who they say they are. There are very few people who can hide their true selves for long when talking to the same person/people for a long period of time.

I have met quite a few people that I had only known online and everyone, except for one, were exactly the people I thought they would be, in a way it was a little let down The one person that I met that wasn't exactly who he claimed to be was a guy that was very good at keeping his story straight, all that tripped him up was his family, who were very nice people, but he was very insecure in a way I think. But all in all people tend to be themselves when they are on the net, especially in a forum like this, in the naughty forums I guess you really would have to be more careful

I guess it depends on a person. I had a troubled childhood, so I learned to listen and see. To observe. I would not allow myself to feel anything before I were sure. I have seen to many lies.
I think if it were online chat only. No phone calls, no pictures, no emails then it would be a lot more complicated. When you speak with somebody on the phone you might notice many things. Pictures of half naked or fully dressed perfect girls would not work if you are not dull
There are many details that accumulate when you chat with somebody every/other day and unless you chat with 10 others, you would notice any discrepancies.

I could not agree more.

I was not looking for a girl on IRC. I asked a friend of mine to install it for me on my old 486 Windows 95 because I didn't want to loose my English, something I thought I would never be able to learn, but somehow I got a grip on it when playing online game for 3 years then quit it forever. I would go to "beginners" chat group and just read what people say, on a very rare occasion say something. I was always watching MTV at the same time, TV was opposite my PC. Most of the time I would sit with my back to the PC screen. It just so happened, that I turned my head for a moment and on the fast running text (beginners group is quite lively) on the 14" screen I noticed that somebody asked: Does anybody speak Russian? ....I do, I might say Hi.
That was it.

What astra said held true for Chris and me. I knew I was in love with the person I knew online, and when we met in person, it was, indeed, like two halves becoming a whole. I was instantly comfortable with him, the only "side effect" was I wouldn't let go of him! After so long without being able to touch him, I don't think I let him an inch away from me for quite some time.

My wise says it all the time: We met too late. We don't have as much time as our parents (my celebrated 51 a month ago) who married in their early 20, so I am not going to waste my time on petty arguments and such, we should cherish and celebrate every day we are together.
She would not encourage me to advance in my career because my current job, albeit very low paid, allows us to spend more time together.

Astra, many many thanks for telling us your story so openly. I am glad your wife found you out and that all worked out so happyly for you both. Your story gave me a little better understanding how online relations can start and can be turned into "eye-to-eye-love stories". It seems, they need more time to develop, but then they seem at least as lasting as others.

I have a similar story. I met a GF on IRC because her ISP information showed she was in Boston. But it turned out that she was in Nashua, NH. I was home sick from work and bored. Just on IRC and when she came into the chat room looking like she was from Boston, I said hello to her. I wasn't looking for a GF. Just talking to her because she was local. So we got to talking, eventually decided to eet offline and not long later she because my GF. We did eventually break up. But we managed to remain friends. She eventually moved to Texas and I lost track of her.

My wife is the only one I said "I love you" to online before meeting offline. When we met offline for the first time, during that two week visit, that was when I asked her to marry me. And she accepted and the rest as they say is history.
