Just curiosity, I've been off the market for many, many years (and not looking to be back in it, Lord forbid. I was actually just joking with a friend about that). I've always thought that MR would be a great place for people to meet a partner, seeing as people here tend to be very friendly, and it's very easy to find people here with shared interests. This is the first forum that I've been active in (although I'm signed up to several), because I find that the vast majority of the people here are very warm, friendly and helpful, and very fun to talk to, not to mention very intelligent.

in addition to that reading is a quite time-consuming-hobby requiring at least a specific mindset I think, so the chance of crossing the way of somebody who fits is higher than in communities devoted to things which use up far less leisure time because there remains more time/space for terrifying incompatibilities.

Thank god I'm not feminine, I thought some of your posts were funny.

I remember on another forum (aviation) where a member said that if they sound like they know what's going on in a cockpit they must be a man. Then a sweet young lady pointed out that she figured if they were in a forum talking about aviation it shouldn't matter and that he should pull his head out of..well you get the point.

I, like everyone I think, has a preconceived ideas about who we are talking to that evolve as we get to know each other. I always start out by assuming that the guys are all greek gods and the women look like Brigitte Bardot and have the personality of Zooey Deschanel.
