Font help for newbie? (902)
Hi All,
I purchased the 902 because of it's large screen, and the ability 'to add any font'. I have a Kobo as well. With the Kobo, I am able to change the font in books, and read a font that provides a bit less stress to my eyes. I HAD hoped that with the ability to add fonts to the Pocketbook, that these fonts could be used in books and I could read with ease (after all, the Kobo, a relatively simple device has about 4-8 fonts, as well as the ability to increase/decrease). With the Pocketbook, I added fonts, and the only place I can see to change them is in the appearance of the menus - not within books - can anyone help me with this? I'd really like to be able to use a 'heavier' font that would help me out. Cheers, Bueymo |

Use FB reader or Adobeviewer to read epubs. If you are reading pdf files, you are not able to change fonts, just zoom in.
On epubs, you can change fonts. When you have the epub open, push the round button, pop window appear and select settings. Search for fonts and experiment yourself. ![]() |

I think, you can change fonts in an open epub-file only with FBreader. If you want to use a different font while reading with Adobeviewer you have to change/embed the font in the epub-file beforehand.

a little more guidance?
Hi - thanks for all the help so far! FBReader sounds like the way I'll be going.
I'm a bit intimidated to attempt, and am hoping for just a little more guidance. Operating system of Pocketbook: Linux (Kernel Linux 2.6.28) info on setting up FBReader on the Pocketbook: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...t=67149&page=2 What version of FB reader is for the Pocketbook? http://www.fbreader.org/downloads.php There seems to be a type for each device listed - but no Pocketbook listed, and I'm not familiar enough to know if the desktop kernel is the same as what is on the PB. I don't want to end up with a dead device. Thanks again for guidance. Bueymo |

Hi,
There's already a version of fbreader installed in your PB. It's the default reader for .PDB books and other standards. In order to open an epub with the program, go to Library, select a book and hold the Ok button until a context menu appears. then choose "open with" > fbreader. From now on that ebook will be opened by fbreader. There's a way to make fbreader the default program, involving the manipulation of a file named "extensions.cfg", eventually you can search the forums for a complete explanation. Enjoy your reading! |

Hi,
once you're at the stage of picking fonts, also give thought to line spacing. It can make quite a difference. Also some fonts will require you to select a larger or smaller size than others to maintain readability size. Often, serifed fonts are more readable than un-serifed. Cheers, |

Interesting
Hey All!
Thank for the info - for the non-purchased books I have (ones that were pre-loaded), I'm able to change font/sizes magins - everything on the FBReader - very very nice to know about - thank you! Once my new glasses are in and I can actually focus again I'll be setting this up so that I'm very comfortable. I have books I purchased from Kobobooks (EPUB FORMAT) that seem to only open with the adobe reader - and the fonts are not adjustable (as indicated above due to the AdobeViewer being the only way to view thes) - additionally, they display only on 1/3 of the screen (middle) with large strips on either side being unused. Is there a way to fix this? Is there a reason that I can only use the AdobeViewer and not FBReader with these books? Any tips/hints would be appreciated - as have all been so far. I'm exploring the native abilities of the device before adding any other program to it, but am also glad for that info. Cheers! Bueymo Last edited by bueymo; 04-14-2011 at 06:46 PM. |

Purchased ebooks are often protected against copy by Adobe DRM , so only Adobeviewer could manage DRM protection.
as for the white margins, I have no clue, but my guess is they're coded in those ebooks. Last edited by preempalver; 04-14-2011 at 07:32 PM. |

Just search for DeDRM in this forum, then you can use fbreader or even convert your books with calibre and all is fine.
Many officially sold ebooks are very poorly formatted, because many publishers have not given much thought to the idea of ebooks, but hop on the train as it's passing |

Ahem... you can solve a little DRM issue with either Caliber or one of several ways of doing it, explained here on this forum. After that you can read your ePubs on your PocketBook with the FBReader, all you have to do is to press "OK" and hold it on the ePub book until a little menu appears, suggesting to choose the reader - and you choose FBReader with all the nice things that it has - fonts, margins, etc.
