Yes, but can you read ebooks on it?

Do they live in his house? Maybe that would be a good reason to control their pets. If not he should mind his own business.

I don't WANT a new(er) car! I want my Tracker to last...well, at least until tax time next year, but preferably another five years or so.
But this is the Midwest, and it was used when I got it; Chris theorizes the previous owners either did a LOT of off-roading or it was in a flood, and the underbody is showing the effects. All of that means that it's rusting out on the bottom, and the time is getting nearer than I want it to be that I'm going to have to replace it or it will keep breaking and get progressively more expensive. But I LIKE my car...

I have Chris and Alan working on life support plans, but neither of them sound very hopeful.

I've visited the rant thread before, but I haven't posted here. I'm overdue, I think. I must unload.

Rant #1: I've been sick for nearly a week. Like "can barely get out of bed" sick. It's a flu-like thing where you can only treat the symptoms and just deal with it. Thankfully my roommate has been taking care of the dog for me. I just don't normally get this sick for this long, and even though I know it's not too serious and I am getting better, it's scary. My mom called on Monday when my temp was 102 and rising (Farenheit, of course) and she didn't even bother calling again until YESTERDAY. (That was kind of a combo rant, I guess.)

Rant #2: Has everyone gone batshite crazy or am I too sensitive? It seems like well over half the threads active "up top" right now are people sniping and arguing over everything that comes up. I mean, we've always had those who are more argumentative, but I don't remember it being this nasty just a month ago. Sometimes the back and forth can be amusing, but not when it's so... hateful. We've even got a newbie picking on someone, actually targeting her. I don't like this. I love this place and I hate to see so much hostility. Like I said, maybe I'm just overly sensitive right now because I'm sick and very fatigued, but I had to get that off my chest. (On a brighter note, the Raging Proud Pirate and the Anti-Copyright Idealist are actually starting to grow on me. You know who they are. I may never agree with them, but at least they aren't mean.)

Rant #3: This is related to Wynd's earlier post - from the response of some, you'd think that Congress was about to mandate that everyone buy an ad-supported Kindle. I also kind of have to laugh at this, because on a game site (not to be confused with a gaming site) I frequent, they decided to add one additional free weekly personal challenge as well as let members pay to do more every week if they choose. People have been asking for this for AGES. Suddenly, people are threatening to not renew their membership because the site is "giving away what should be free". What? They get an additional FREE one they weren't getting before, and the OPTION to buy more. It's insane. The situation to the KSO is similar in that both require one to willingly opt for it - and nothing will convince me that this is the end of the world.

As Wynd said (sort of) let them choke on their damn chocolate cake. (Related rant - NOTHING has tasted good to me in days. I wouldn't know chocolate from dirt at this point. This could have something to do with me being such a sad biotch right now.)

@Wynd - can I borrow your maid? I need someone to draw me a bath and asking my roommate would just be too weird.

people and their sense of entitlement *shakes head* really, with all the people who want free stuff, i'm wondering why they'd be against communal living (where everything is essentially 'shared' and 'free' xD)

my maid doesn't draw my bath

Oh Poor Cwatkinsnash! There is something nasty going around. Tim did nothing but sleep for 3 days, just getting out of bed long enough to go to the bathroom. Mucinex helped him, but it pretty much had to just work itself out. I sure hope you start to feel better soon.

I got frustrated with the bickering a while back too. I blew my top, embarrassed myself, and got scolded by the mods. Since then, I have been hitting the "ignore" button like crazy! From your "user cp" "edit details" way down at the bottom, you can ignore whole forums. About the only posts that I see threads from are newsy, recommendy, Llounge, ipad, just fun stuff. And individual threads that are dragging on too long can be ignored from "thread tools" in the 2nd blue bar. It has made me very happy to not see the fight threads anymore.

Now, don't even give a thought to the fighting in the ad-sponsored Kindle thread. I deleted it yesterday and will never miss it.

Are you reading the MR book club book, "Hal Spacejock" yet? It is lighthearted fluff, just what you need when you are sick. Why not kick back with a couple of fun books and let yourself rest and heal?

I hope you feel lots better very soon!

I've been reading too many historical romances. 'Cause, you know, the maids always draw the bath for the lady. Of course, if I don't draw my own bath soon, I won't be smelling like a lady. I've managed to shower while I've been sick, but it was not a pleasant experience.

Thanks. Sorry to hear he's been sick too. You aren't too far South of me, so maybe something blew in with the crazy weather we've had across the region the past week or so.

I used to have a few people on my ignore list, but oddly, those people don't seem as bothersome anymore. But it looks like I'll have to start using that button again. Just a few moments ago, another perfectly good thread went to hell in a snitfit. Usually I can just step away from troubling threads but it seems like they are everywhere now.

No, but I've got two books going right now. One is a collection of paranormal romance novellas *snicker* and the other is a collection of SF short stories that I got from BeWrite during RAEBW. Believe me, I've been reading as much as I can handle - that and my laptop are keeping me sane. No matter how my body feels, if my brain isn't active I go nuts. I appreciate my Kindle more this week than I ever have.

Thank you, Dixie. You're a sweetheart. And you should know that your earlier statement about the exercise bike handles + boobies made me genuinely laugh for the first time in days. That felt really good.

Yay! I multi-quoted! Go me!

since it's only just the 4 of us at home now (my parents, sister and me), our maids have significantly less work. plus we hand-wash most of our own clothes (the expensive ones) anyway.
