They do seem to be pretty good, but when they cost about as much as a 5YO BMW, I'll go for the bimmer

I honestly don't think you can go wrong with a Honda, pretty much any of them have been great cars. I have owned a Civic, a CRX and a Prelude and I put thousands of miles on them and none of them ever let me down. The Prelude when it got run over by a truck had almost 300,000 km and the only major work done was to replace the CV joints (common early 90's Honda problem).

The CRX and Civic were sold on to people that were happy with them and put 100,000 more km on both.

No, the car is for her. Right now, I don't even have a Japanese car license. I gag at the thought of having to go through all that again.

Well, she picked out a white Toyota 'Vitz,'



with a 1500cc engine. Nice little car that will get her back and forth to work a bit more comfortably than her motor scooter. It has a really neat but large voice activated (Japanese only) GPS Navigation Console mounted into the dash that doubles as a TV, FM, CD, and DVD player so she can watch the Sumo matches or a movie when zooming down the highway. The TV also functions as a rear-view camera for backing up safely. The screen flips up for access to the CD and MD slots. I like this thing better than the car!

Now, all she needs to do is secure a parking space and get the documents to prove it, and she can get the car. You have to be able to prove you have a parking space to buy a car here. There are a couple available within a block or so of the house.

my brother-in-law is generous and kind of funny to hang out with, and provided that at the moment his wife and kid aren't here and I'm on my own without parental control, he's the only one I can pester

and we'll only drink beer, 5% alcohol! what on earth will possibly happen??
