I'm pro-DRM removal (and even more pro-DRM-free content) and anti-DMCA, but that doesn't change the fact that the DMCA makes me a criminal every time I liberate an ebook I buy.

Back when you bought that specific eBook, there was no ePub. So all you are doing now is being pedantic. Things change. Sony had to change or they would have eventually had to stop with eBooks.

The LRX from Sony was a huge mess. The base font size was too small and the margins HUGE. When you made the font size medium, you got huge gaps between the lines. Moving to ePub was the best thing Sony did.

The real issue with the LRX/EPUB thing on Sony is that at least when they originally converted, there were books that they had in LRX but were unable to get in EPUB. So, unless they have since been able to get the rights to convert all those books to EPUB (likely but not guaranteed) the switch may well have cost people money and broken their access to some books.

And ePub on my Sony is a mess. No headers, screwy page numbers, no full justification. That's not what I paid for. YMMV.

This is true. But authorized isn't authorised either.

Because unlike nervous also-ran languages, English doesn't have some central body telling us what is and isn't proper English. We just let the words compete in a free marketplace, and may the best word win.

And unlike certain other languages, English doesn't reject "loan words" from other languages. Loan words? English doesn't just borrow words, it steals them outright!

Originally, Sony only sold LRX. For a while Sony had both. They were, or are, in the process of switching their entire selection to ePub; their new acquisitions are ePub only. New devices only read ePub, not BBEB/LRX. Some ebooks haven't been converted and won't be available for re-download until they finish converting them.

New devices do indeed handle LRF. But they do not handle LRX.

Originally, not all of my LRX were converted. But they are all converted so all of my LRX is now ePub. Go back to your library and double check. I think they'll all have been sorted by now.
