Could I ask, please, for some help for a newbie. I had the jailberak and screensaver hack installed on my Kindle. I updated to 3.1 without knowing that I should uninstall the hacks. The update installed fine and I am having no trouble with my Kindle but, I want to make sure I can receive future updates for my Kindle. I am unclear as to what to do next. I did read the previous posts, but didn't understand fully and I don't want to mess up the order. Could someone direct me step by step in fairly simple terms as to what to do so that I may still receive future updates?

I understand all of that. I'm talking about the actual jailbreak that I originally did before the screen saver hack could be installed. Is that all wiped out by the 3.1 firmware or is there anything left behind?

For what I know the new fw doesn't remove anything, it's just a system update, so the user's data and settings remain untouched.
I remember I had only a few books into the k3 when I updated to 3.1, and they were still there after the update.

Since folks who had the OLDER jailbreak and the screensaver hack found it still worked after the 3.1 upgrade, I doubt that the 3.1 removed anything. Those hacks still work and were not wiped out. I _THINK_ this new jailbreak actually allows the removal of the prior jailbreak and ss hack even with the 3.1 firmware.

Remove in reverse order - ss hack and then old jailbreak. Having not done the font hack I am now in its loop.

I had the ss and jailbreak installed on my 3.02 FW for my K3. My kindle automatically updated to 3.1. I followed each of the steps to install the new jailbreak and then uninstall the old SS and then old jailbreak hack. BUT, when it was all done I saw my old screen savers and see that the ss bin didn't uninstall. Perhaps I didn't update my kindle in between (not sure). Now I can't go and uninstall because I don't have the old jailbreak. Should I go in and reinstall the old jailbreak? Is it compatible with 3.1? Please help!!!

Sorry if I'm not being clear enough but I'm asking if the "kindle-jailbreak-0.4.N" hack has left anything behind after 3.1 stealth updated the Kindle and I didn't have a chance to uninstall the old jailbreak beforehand. I know that it's ideal to uninstall the old jailbreak before upgrading to 3.1 but Amazon updated the Kindle without me knowing. I'm not asking about any other hacks or user content or settings, just the older jailbreak file and whatever it does.

This is what I was wondering, if it's possible to uninstall the old "kindle-jailbreak-0.4.N" after installing the NEW jailbreak or if that old jailbreak data still even exists on the Kindle. I wasn't sure if the 3.1 firmware wiped out the old jailbreak. I'll try to install the new one and then uninstall the old one, and see what happens. Thanks FF2.

Harpangel seems to have indicated that it did not work as anticipated. But I don't know. I thought I had read that folks did REMOVE even after 3.1.

I was fortunate - I hoped for a jailbreak for 3.1 and so removed the old stuff prior to allowing my wifi back on.

I didn't mess with the Kindle that updated itself to 3.1 with old jailbreak still installed yet, but I just went through the process with my 3.0.3 Kindle of uninstalling the screen saver hack (left linkss folder alone,) uninstalling the old jailbreak, updating to 3.1, installing new jailbreak, reinstalling screen saver hack. Worked flawlessly, thanks to all involved! And now with "hacks enabled" this jailbreak will prevent Amazon from stealth updating the firmware? Awesome!
