Well, it is a Disaster Recovery drill, whose intent is to check for problems. The big question is whether the underlying issues will be identified and corrected, and this won't happen again.

I think I may be getting conned by a seller on etsy, but I'm not at all sure so I'm reluctant to open a paypal dispute.

That would be when I would ask to see the manager.

Opps, should have read the rest of the thread before posting!

oh wow.... did he have a fair complexion. For some reason, I'm picturing a guy with red hair.

A high school aged girl should know common courtesy at her age. I learned how to be courteous when I was still in the single digits. Courtesy goes a long way with me. If she had shown sincere remorse, I may have even left her a larger tip with a little note saying that I hope her night gets better, or something along those lines. Everyone makes mistakes. How they handle those mistakes is what truly shows their character and I'm always impressed when someone shows great character.

when my son was an infant, we knew a young German couple who had a baby boy about the same age (this was in Germany). they fed this poor kid nothing but "things orange", he had carrot juice in his bottle, ate pureed carrots, and sweet potatoes. he was DEFINITELY orange. I have a picture of him and my son laying next to each other during a diaper change, the hue on that baby was very disturbing. also his groin was completely irritated and he had bad diaper rash. I don't know if that was the diet or care

back in college, I was also in ROTC. two of us cadets met another ROTC cadet at a restaurant after a field problem. the first two of us had been in the field for 4 days, still had a fair amount of cammo on our faces, and probably didn't smell very good. the third cadet had been at an interview for a Army Reserve position for the rest of his time in college prior to active duty and was in his dress greens. our waitress turned a corner fairly quickly took one look at the two of us who were funky, gasped and dropped a full pitcher of water on the dressed up one. we drank beer for free that night. we were not only college students, but soldiers, we got more beer out of that deal than the restaurant caused inconvenience!

I used to sacrifice a $20 bill every 6 months or so and tear it into quarters. if I received poor service I would leave a quarter of a 20 for the waitress. I got some really puzzled looks out of that

Glad to see you back here, KK. Sorry that your problems haven't resolved themselves.

I have a rant this morning. It's about refills in restaurants. It works for you coffee drinkers but not for us teaists.

After dinner the wait staff is very attentive, walking around refilling coffee cups. No charge. But if we tea drinkers want a second cup, we have to beg, and then at most get offered some hot water to make a weak second brew. God forbid we ask for a new tea bag.

Tea is MUCH cheaper than coffee. A pound of tea will produce about 200 cups, where as a pound of coffee only about 50. Yes, tea is more expensive than coffee, but not 4x the cost. If we ask for another tea bag, we usually get charged for it. This is blatant anti-tea bias, and should NOT go untreated!

We debated whether or not we should get the manager involved, but decided that -- with the way the economy and job market is at the moment -- that we would have felt horrible to potentially get a young girl fired over an accident like that. Jobs are hard enough to come by at the moment. You never know how managers / bosses are going to react, or overreact.

We were at a Golden Corral (buffet place) last year and a female worker got fired right in front of us. It was a very uncomfortable experience, not to mention very unprofessional. She was basically told to take off her apron and get out, right in front of a packed room full of diners. I'm sure she was just as horrified at the public embarrassment as she was at being fired ... that just wasn't the right way to go about letting someone go.

We haven't been back to that place since. It didn't leave a very good impression on us.

In fact I'd never know about it if I haven't seen it in the movies.

I sometimes think common courtesy's dead by now. Or - ahm well no longer common.
't is often enough I have been looked at like an idiot for (at least what I regard as) proper behaviour

That's no way for someone in their position to handle things. That speaks volumes about the person she was working for and less about her performance. The manager did more harm to the business than any of the servers could have ever done. IMHO, the manager needed to be let go more than the employee.

It's not a custom in Japan either, but common in the US. While we were in Florida last month, the wait staff at breakfast where ever we ate were quite attentive to refilling coffee cups for free, but three different places told us we'd have to pay for a second cup of tea. One chain breakfast restaurant did go so far as to give us a small pot (one extra cup) of hot water, but wouldn't give us another tea bag for it. That chain even goes so far as to leaving a large carafe of coffee on each table.

I was shocked when I moved to New York and discovered that most restaurants don't give free soda refills. (Okay, not shocked, just irritated enough to stop ordering soda.)
