I take your probability assumption as a big compliment towards my usage of the language, because - as I understand it, you would not only assume but 'd be dead sure I'm a foreign speaker (which in fact is true) if the quality of my reading, understanding and writing would be a great lot lousier.

@Stitchawl
I think you are damn right with everyone of your points made.
I've learned a lot here, as well in the matters of language itself, as a lot of deep going information on various topics. It happens frequently here, that, what starts like an answer to someones question finaly ends as a short essay on the topic which mostly enjoy. It's a kind of a knowledge-gift-trap here you step into a topic to give a brief answer, read somones answering posting who was faster and find out he tripled your own knowledge on said matter - I love that.

I don't believe Vit. A turns your skin orange, but beta carotene can. I know, because there was a time when I took large doses of beta carotene in an attempt to get an orange hue. However, you can't overdose on beta carotene, just already processed Vitamin A.

This is a link to some information about Beta carotene and the signs and symptoms of overdose. I can't guarantee its accuracy, but it's in line with what I was taught in Human Physiology classes. On the web we can always find two opposing values for the same equation.

It says it's possible, but even that article isn't definitive. The article doesn't say that it's a Vit. A overdose, but a beta carotene overdose. Beta carotene isn't Vit A, it's a precursor to Vit A, so we are talking about the toxicity of two separate elements.

The main reason I doubt that beta carotene is generally toxic is because the body has to turn beta carotene into Vit A. The body isn't going to turn more beta carotene into Vit A than it needs. The body is always seeking homeostasis and if the body is turning more beta carotene into Vit A, it is autointoxicating itself, which would mean there is another problem at play that needs to be looked into, like an allergy or compromised immune system.

I have also recently heard that ascorbic acid is great to put on skin to prevent/cure (?) skin cancer.

Luckily it seems a bit better today, hopefully it will continue? I definitely don't want pneumonia. I can't afford that kind of time. And, for the record, too much vitamin C does, in fact, cause a bit of a diarrhea...

We barely have doctors here, but I do have a few friends (online) who have had that done and have been happy. The whole idea makes me nervous, and, luckily, it's not really an issue unless I am coughing up a lung.

I don't believe 'anything' on the web is definitive. Anybody can put up any information they want, hence the my statement that we can always find two completely opposing answers to the same question.

Right. There is absolutely no doubt that Vit A overdose is not only possible, but easily caused! I was saying that there can be a problem with Beta Carotene overdose, which this article confims. (If, in fact, this article is accurate. )

Yes, my point exactly. One paragraph of that page discusses the allergic reaction.

I used to take a lot of vitamins until I figured that if my diet was correct, I really didn't need any extra supplements. Living on pizza, french fries, an beer is not a particularly vitamin enriched diet, but if that's just one meal during the week and the rest of the time there are plenty of fresh veggies, and a bit of meat, fish, poultry, and dairy products, that the body should be getting all it can use. No sense spending money just to pee it away. It's been a while since anyone in the US, the UK, or Europe has developed scurvy or beri-beri other than street people.

I was the same way. I spent an enormous amount of cash on supplements. During that time is when I decided to load myself up on beta carotene to see if the orange tint made it look like I had a tan. (I was in my early 20's. Why else would vanity drive me to do such things? LOL....) I was taking 12 - 20 pills of 25,000 IU a day. My palms did turn orange, I suppose my skin did as well, but I'm already tan, and it was so gradual, that it was hard to really see it on anyplace other than my palms. I wasn't safety orange, just a tint. Whatever the case, I had no ill effects from it. My energy level was the same, my mood was the same, my eating habits were the same; nothing changed. After summer was over I stopped taking it.

Lyle's Golden Syrup hasn't changed in 127 years and is still made the same way it was all those years ago. The secret to Lyle's is the perfect blend of sugar molecules, which are continually refined throughout the process. This ensures that the highest quality standards are met for consumers to enjoy the sweet glistening syrup that they know and love.

For those of you who are scientifically minded… the sucrose molecule splits in half to give glucose and fructose sugars. This inverted syrup is blended back with the original syrup to give a partially inverted syrup. The secret of Lyle's Golden Syrup is the final blend of sucrose, glucose and fructose, which allows the syrup to be so thick and velvety without crystallizing.

30 years ago, a guy at work used to nosh on carrots ALL the time .... and eventually developed an orange tint to his skin. He dropped the carrots after noticing that. (I never asked whether a doctor, or a wife, or anyone else made the suggestion.....)

It is mined in Great Britain, most notably notably in Wem (Shropshire), Talskiddy, Bisham, Nuneaton, Chobham, Tongham, Tadley, Skidby, Ditchford, Crick and Dunchideock; in several northern towns including Natland and Baggrow in Cumbria; in Croftamie, Scotland; and in the village of Wymsey.

Spoiler:
Treacle mining is the fictitious mining of treacle (similar to molasses) in a raw form similar to coal. The subject purports to be serious but is an attempt to test credulity. Thick black treacle makes the deception plausible. The topic has been a joke in British humour for a century.
