It is a neoprene sleeve WITHOUT zipper, so no scratching the screen. I was also able to put on the rubber (or gel?) frame from B&N for 20 bucks, and I can still pop it into the neoprene without too much trouble.
They had something just like that at Walmart as well for $15. Only issue I had with it was that it was a lot harder to get the NC in and out of it.

Yeah, it went in and out really easy before I put the gel case on the NC. It's a little harder now with the thicker gel cover, but still seems to work well, and protects it during transit.

I've doing my best to avoid covering up that beautiful screen with some cruddy clear plastic.

I'm currently using a portable DVD player case that I formerly used for a 10" netbook.
It's a smidge too big, but I put it in my laptop manbag anyway, and right now it has the charger / cable in it also.

I love my M-edge Latitude jacket for my e-ink Nook - my wife bought it on ebay thinking it would fit her Kindle 2 - but the NC edition isn't available yet.

My wife just sold her Kindle 2 - planning on Kindle 3 upgrade soon - but her old K2 M-edge case doesn't fit snugly enough - I found myself worried about it falling out if given a good shake.

If I was going $30-$40 I'd probably just go $70 and get an Oberon. I'd prefer to keep it cheap though - the budget is tight.

I saw this one recommended in a thread for $8.21 - it's a Kindle 2 case though, and like the m-edge, I'm hesitant that the fit will be tight enough:

I am thinking about one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/CaseCrown-Prem...3896478&sr=8-5

...and a CaseCrown "leather" Kindle DX case for my gTab... (Oddly enough this is cheaper than their Nook/NC cases...) I figure with the 2 casecrown cases it'll still cost me less than MSRP for one NC case from B&N...

...so I'm waiting to make sure that my NC #2 (#1 was defective) doesn't develop any defects before my 14d are up, at which point I figured that I'd just order both cases simultaneously... Case prices from B&N are nuts, but OTOH they're nowhere near as high as those Oberon cases...

I think it's a great choice for the money. A reviewer did mention that it doesn't fold back. Don't know if that matters to you. It was a Kindle case review.

I got my cover at B&N a few days before Christmas. All Nook accessories were on sale, and after the discount price, mine was only $20.

I bought this one that come with 2 chargers:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ef=oss_product

The case has a zipper and while not a very prestigious leather has the zipper to keep out weather. I like the extra protection of the full case.

The chargers are only only 700ma vs the required 1.9 amps. I do not think that the short plug matters, but it takes about 6 hours to charge instead of the 3.
Since I complained saying the chargers did not work as advertised the company quickly refunded me the half the payment and let me keep the chargers.

Decided to update this, since by the time that I ordered my case the casecrown above was OOS, so I ordered this one instead:
http://www.amazon.com/Professional-B...5714924&sr=1-4

Uses corner securing system with the right side corners being leather and the upper one covers the volume buttons. Left corners are elasticy material, upper partly covers power button, but it's still accessible and will probably not inadvertently actuate the power button. Holds it securely. The strap is a magnetic closer which holds in place very securely.

Probably end up with an actual B&N case which uses a different style of securing the NC in the case. Still might try to track down another casecrown NC case as well...

[EDIT]
One other drawback is that the case does have a bit of an odor although not nearly as bad as my neoprene case from Sears for my gTablet had...
[/EDIT]

Just thought I would just add this to the list. I purchased two covers at boxwave.com. I bought a "leather" case that opens vertically for myself and a standard book style "leather" case for my sister. Got both on sale for less than $20 each. Products and prices seem to vary, but a site worth checking out from time to time. I was happy with both covers.

Javoedge, http://www.javoedge.com, has a good selection of reasonably priced covers. I'm very happy with the quality and look of the one I purchased.
