I wouldn't sell the nook color's harware too short, though I'm sure you are in the spirit of not getting into a whole crazy debate with JoeCampo but: 1024 X 600 LG IPS Panal captactive screen TI OMAP ARM Cortex-A8 processor running at 800 MHz gorgous styling and great rubberized back. That's actually fairly high end hardware. ![]() and the screen's color, detail and contrast and pixel density can be in anyone''s leauge including the iPad, some say the nook colors screen is even better. If the Samsung Galaxy S's hardware is a Lexus I would say the nook color's hardware is at least an Acura. ![]() by the way this goes to Joe as well both are great great devices, I just don't think they are in competition with each other. if someone wants a high end full color ereader that can do more than what eink can, then the nook color is your top choice. somebody who wants a full blown Android Table with one of the best processor's in the hummingbird processor, then the Samsung Galaxy is great and currently is your top choice. To me it's android rocking the house on two fronts. ![]() Last edited by boswd; 01-21-2011 at 03:23 PM. |

I think you are mixing up your opinon as fact and claiming it as fact. Where are these rules that tells us what is the min. requirement to be an ereader and what is to be a tablet. Now that may be your personal opinon but egads man. So you are saying basically that unless you use eink you are not an ereader? if that is what you are saying then all I can do is this ![]() ![]() but hey everyone is entitled to their own opinion. ![]() Last edited by boswd; 01-21-2011 at 03:37 PM. |

![]() I want to be nice and not argue too much, and the nook color has really great hardware! It has exceeded my expectations in every way and is half the cost of my wife's ipad and the Galaxy Tab. |

Battery replacement and side shows
I apologize if this is elsewhere on this thread, I looked but did not find.
Is the Galaxy's battery user-replaceable? If I use it primarily for reading could I expect a longer battery life? i am a teacher and would love to have an alternative to lugging my entire laptop to work every day. I often need to show powerpoint-type presentations or a simple slide show of photographs. Could the the Galaxy support a powerpoint-type app? Is there a way to connect it to a projector or monitor? Thanks! |

As Far as I know, The Battery is NOT user replaceable. Its a sealed design similar to the iPad.
As for long life while reading, its probably possible especially if you dim the screen and switch off the wireless when your just reading. |

Hi Lucyloo,
Yes, you should be able to use Office documents via Thinkfree: http://member.thinkfree.com/member/goLandingPage.action When registered, you can also share documents with other peers online, without sending anything via email. The online version is paid I think, ThinkFree Office Mobile has no cost and can be downloaded via Market. There is a HDMI video output available through a 30-pin port on the bottom of the device so you should be able to connect a monitor or a a docking/keyboard if you want, even your TV if you want to watch a video ;-) The battery is not replaceable, strictly speaking, but you can reach it by removing the back cover carefully. Do not try this at home though because will void the warranty and just makes no sense if new. Battery should last several years. Regarding using the GT as dedicated ereader, I would not recommend it but that's my personal opinion. For a full reading experience I think nothing replace a nice eink device. This is basically a full equipped computer (or almost) running Linux so it would be a waste of money in my opinion. Even though the battery can last a full business day (tested at work already) you will get about 9hrs of continue usage only. But mixed and on/off during the day or if you want to read full color magazines, can be used as sporadic ereader "on the go" or at bed. I do have Kindle, Aldiko and Nook app on same device, all running without an issue and without rooting or hacking Android. Last edited by jocampo; 01-22-2011 at 09:24 AM. |

Galaxy Tab Now $399 at Costco...
and NO contract. Verizon does stick it to you by making you buy at least one month of data (month-to-month with no early termination fee). Just got one yesterday and am loving it and considering that VZ offers 1 GByte/month for $20 I may keep the data for a while.
I am using Cool Reader - sort of OK but I have yet to see a really great reader for Android. Aldiko's OK but the bookmarking is weak (best I've seen is Nook or Sony where you just tap the screen and a little "bookmark" icon appears - Ibooks on the Ipad has this too) - wonder why more devs don't adopt this? Does anyone know if the Nook app for Android allows for landscape reading? |

My favorite is Nook for Android, not as powerful as iBooks but similar concept. It does landscape but splits the screen in two pages; I have not found the way to get rid of that and using the whole screen's width instead. Something I saw the other day while testing with the iPad is that Nook for iOs is totally different than Nook for Android, same for Kindle. Kindle for iOs is very similar in concept to Nook for Android, really weird. I don't like Nook for iOs, in my opinion iBook is way much better and powerful. |

Yeah, I like Moon Reader too and tried as well. But with so many options and flavors, I decided to stick to Kindle and B&N for DRM books and Aldiko for the remaining ones.
I did not want to get crazy with so many readers but centralize my book's collection in just a few. |

In terms of filtering and search capabilities, iPad is better for me. In Android there is no way, at least not now, to filter results. What Google did was giving access to Android Market via webpage; haven't use it but I think it allows you to refine your search. |

I love mine, too. There's a widget called batstat that monitors battery level (as well as temp and amperage) and sits on your home screen. Using that, I find I can keep the Tab going all day. BTW, turning off your wifi saves a lot of battery when not in use.
