Ok, thanks harry, I think I have it. I selected device, highlighted all the books and rightclicked to import to library (new temp library). Think that will work.

This is the easiest way.
Open Calibre and create a New Library called "Temp" Click the button that says something about copying the style of your existing library. It will then open that library which has nothing in it. Change back to your original library. Connect your Kindle and a new column appears in Calibre called "On Device" Press the On Device column header to sort by this. ie all your On Device books go to the top of the list with a green tick next to them. Select and highlight all of those books and then right click "copy to Library" - "temp" This way it is realy fast as it copies from your hardrive to your hardrive, it doesn't actually take anything off your Kindle. Make sure that you have entered the metadata plugboard info into preferences. Make a test copy of 3-4 books in a series to make sure that you got all the text correct. When satisfied you got everything then proceed with wiping your Kindle and then transferring all the books from the temp library back onto your kindle. This time they will have the plugboard applied to them as you copy them on. You can then use Kindelabra or Kindle Collection Manager to organise your collections. Personally I use KCM. Brewjono. |

Brewjono and Harry, thanks for all your help. Mission accomplished. I had to remake my collections manually as I haven't tried Kindlelabra or KCM yet. Wasn't to big of a deal as I only have about 80 books loaded so far. Once again guys thanks a million.

Would I be right in thinking that this can only work if an ebook started out as an ebook? One that first went online as txt, html, pdf or suchlike wouldn't have the metadata needed to make this work would it? |

Just guessing, but I would think you can set the metadata in Calibre, then convert to format needed.
1. Import book into Calibre (txt, html, pdf etc.) 2. Edit metadata filling in info you need 3. Convert to format for reader 4. Send to device - this then puts the plugboard info in. I think this is right. But I am just learning myself. Last edited by davtay; 01-14-2011 at 09:10 PM. |

Davtay is correct.
Regardless of what the metadata may have been when you imported it into Calibre you pretty much have control over it from there and can edit the metadata to your hearts content. When you send the book to your device, after installing the plugboard, then the metadata that is in Calibre at the time is applied and modified by the plugboard. Brewjohno |
