Here it's not even late enough to start drinking yet. (Well, okay, it's mostly because my roommate hasn't made it home with the wine yet, rather than any display of decorum.)

I joined too.
However, I think I will be keeping track mostly for myself rather than achieving the goal of 100. This is because even though I am an avid reader (I teach English literature at a college) I have never counted how many books I have read in one year - I think it is quite a lot but I don't have an "official" number. So this will be a good way of counting.

Help!! I set up a ticker in my signature, and it shows up fine in the User CP but it's not showing on my posts. I haven't used a signature here before, is there another setting somewhere that might prevent it from showing up? I've looked around, but haven't found one.

Nevermind, Now it's decided to show up! I guess all I had to do was ask for help.

I'm doing a ticker as well. I know I won't make it to 100, but I'd just like to know how many books I will read for the year. I'm going back to school(for a career change), and won't be able to read nearly as much as I'd like to. Well I'll be reading, but it will be of the textbook variety.

I just joined at the last minute--I tried to search through the thread for how to set up a ticker, but I don't see the info. Could someone please tell me how to get and use the ticker?

Click on my ticker - it will take you to tickerfactory.com where you can choose the graphics and such for your own. After that you just click on your own ticker and enter your pin/password to update it.

Edit to add: Once you create it and get to the code page, copy the bbcode version into the signature box in the user CP here.

Thanks. OK, I created one, but, like KarenH, mine is not showing up yet.

Ah, there it is. Thanks again.

Hey Group Homies!

I'm excited to get started. I actually bought a new book (with free gift cards - but bought none the less) for the occasion. I have such a backlog of free books that I really didn't need to. But, any excuse to shop is good enough for me!

I just read in our group section that in-progress books count. I have at least a dozen in progress so that will give me quite the head start. I think I will limit myself to ones that are at 50% or less completed.

Already finished it - although it didn't officially meet the "rules" of the challenge. The books was The Scrubs by Simon Janus.

At only 84 pages in paperback it was more like a novella.

I'm now starting The Scourge by David H Burton.

I've got a list of a few books put together to read this year. Now where to start...

I'll certainly be keeping track this year, as I did last year. I read 162 books last year, but failed (spectacularly) in my goal of getting by TBR list under 200, as I bought (or got for free) 246 books. It now stands at 417!

Updating my 2010 resolutions, in 2011, I intend
  • To buy no more than one book for every three books I read*
  • To get my "to be read" folder below 300 by the end of the year

* this includes existing subscriptions — to Asimov's, Analog, F&SF and Interzone. So it's going to be tough! But I exclude freebies, as they are often time limited.
