It's the fourth day with my Kindle 3 and if anything I'm getting more impressed. I've finally got just what I've been looking for to read all those Gutenberg and other text files and pdfs I've accumulated over the years. Just one mild gripe: why is there no folder view to accommodate the way I've organised my files on my PC.
Up to now have spent more time reading forums about the Kindle than actually reading books, but as I find out just what the Kindle can do and what it cannot, that'll change. |

My mother got herself a K2 earlier this year. When she asked what I (and my family) wanted for Christmas I suggested a Kindle. She ordered 6 kindles, 3 3G - 1 for her, and my 2 college age children (they will travel more), and 3 WiFi - 1 for me, my husband and my sister. She also got each of us a case and an Amazon gift card. I was overwhelmed by her generosity. It was amazingly quiet after everyone had opened their gifts and started browsing and reading their choice of free book.
I and my husband were both skeptical of e-readers and how much we would enjoy reading from the kindle, but it has totally won me over. Now that I am back at home, I have downloaded Calibre and KCM and getting all my new books organized. I like the ability to share content with the whole family by registering all the kindles to one account. I also showed the kindle to my father-in-law who was a big reader until he started to lose his vision. He can now only read large print books with a magnifier, but was able to read from the larger fonts on the kindle, plus use the text to speech option. My in-laws are very much technophobes (they don't have a computer of any kind), but the kindle was easy enough for him to use that he may just get one for himself. |

I got one for Christmas and all I can say is wow! Hubby really surprised me. I was thinking I would buy the older model but hubby got me a Kindle 3.
Love it, can't seem to put it down. |

I opened mine on Christmas Eve and haven't stopped reading since! I knew I was in trouble when I bought my third ebook (damn you, Amazon, and your one-click ordering!) just after midnight Monday....
Who needs sleep when there are books to be read??? |

I know exactly what you mean! When I got mine, days disappear. I haven't experienced anything like that since I discovered Youtube. |

![]() In all seriousness, Calibre pretty much answers most of my complaints about organizing things. The only complaints I have left are specifically on the Kindle end and are relatively minor. |

New Kindle
DH got me a Kindle for Christmas-- I am a big reader, but I usually get books from the library or half.Com. I rarely buy new books-- I'm just not the type to read the same book over and over.
I've done some looking around and it looks like it is going to be a little bit of a learning curve to learn how to transform library ebooks to Kindle friendly versions. I do like it-- it is much easier reading on the eyes than a computer screen. |

I got my Kindle wifi for Christmas, and have been so engrossed in it since then that I've only just come back to the forum. I love it. So easy to adapt to, despite all my misgivings. I'm also very happy with the Amazon cover. I've downloaded books from Amazon and from this site, and it's just so simple.
I'm very grateful for all the help, advice and encouragement given by members here, and delighted that I took the plunge. This is easily the most helpful forum I've ever come across, and the depth of knowledge and experience is truly awesome. I'm sending a link to Mobile Read to all the people I know who got Kindles for Christmas. Now to delve into the mysteries of Calibre. Wishing all Mobile Readers a very happy new year. |

My wife has been reading the e-manual and going OOOOOOooooo and AAAAAAAaahhhh for the last hour or so. She won't let me load any books from Calibre on it yet because she wants to know the device inside and out before putting books on it. She's strange like that.
She did download a couple samples from Amazon and about freaked out on how awesome that was. |

My in-laws surprised me and bought me a Kindle 3 for Christmas. I absolutely love the thing. I had been using an IPod touch with the Kindle app to read before but the eInk is amazing. My eyes are already thanking me. I have not stopped playing with my Kindle since late Christmas and I feel like a little kid with his new present.
