Content Converting from Kindle format to nook

There's this wonderful book that I'd really LOVE to read that I found on Amazon that is offered in Kindle format. B&N has the same book but only in hard print format, no digital. I have a nook and no intention of buying a Kindle just for one book. If I download that book as a Kindle book, will I be able to convert its format to a nook- friendly format?

In theory yes, however due to the fact that it requires breaking DRM it is not an appropriate topic for this forum.

The Sony's read DRM-free ePub, just like the Nook.

BN representative told me that Nook cannot read Kindle's format. Per the representative, it was Amazon's decision.

You could try http://inkmesh.com/ and see if it's available in epub anywhere.

You could always download the Kindle for PC app, and read it on your pc.

nook reads ePub format

Kindle reads azw (same as mobi or prc) or sometimes Topaz format. I point this out because most Amazon kindle books are azw files, but some of those more "rare" not widely available books are Topaz. Usually badly scanned, horribly formatted, not proof read Topaz.

to read the file on your nook you need to buy the book, take off the DRM and convert it - then transfer it to the nook

Very easy if you have an azw file. More difficult with Topaz but still usually doable.

This is true... but the books can be converted into ePub and that is something the nook can read.

Like mentioned above, you need to remove the DRM, convert the book using a program like Calibre, and then upload into your nook.

well of course it is possible. People do it all the time. I've done it.

Whether or not it is something you'll choose to do is another question. But it is definitely possible.

Bear in mind that not all ebooks sold via Amazon have DRM, so it might be as simple as purchasing the Kindle version and using Calibre to convert to EPUB format, without any need for stripping DRM.

I doubt that a B&N rep knows the ins and outs of Amazon... though I am pretty sure he is right
