If there were adverts *after* the abrupt ending, as he stated .... it seems less likely that it could be a transmission ending too soon. Ya know?

@Steve -- now is the time I would walk into a Barnes & Noble physical book store, find the book on the shelf, and stand there reading the ending that I missed out on!

Exactly my plan!...

Oh: I sent a letter to the author, Jack McDevitt. Not only did he apologize and promise to forward my complaint to HC (so maybe they'll actually read it), he offered to send me a MMP of the book, just so I could read the ending!

I declined, on practical grounds (see BGD's comment above) and on personal convictions to avoid printed books.

Edit: No need to go now: Jack McDevitt sent me the final chapter! My kinda guy!!

Well, the fact that they are toe socks and the one has the big toe in the middle makes it a bit more comforting.
