but I think that womens issues with their looks, come from experiences involving too many of the opposite gender who prefer beauty on the outside over beauty on the inside.

In my experience it works both ways. At least it did back when I still cared about such things, but I'm pretty sure not much has changed in the interim. In any event, beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder, as the saying goes.

The reality is that we evolved this way. Some of us just survived the transition better than others.

it's media and entertainment. we are shown size -0- women and told that that is the beauty standard that we are held to

But-but-but size 0 women are...erm, too skinny. Unless you're like 4'6"

And anyway, to be totally honest I would prefer a woman who's bright enough to be more knowledgeable than MTV concerning what size she should wear.

One MINI Cooper comin' atcha, recluse! I love mine. i switched from the regular, to the Clubman --- 12" longer and with an extra door to let passengers get into the back seat. It adds enough space that I can sleep in the back (with seats folded down) while I'm on a road trip. Wheee!!

You're right, of course, but I don't think it's as big an issue for men as it is for women. I don't know if "big" is the right word... It's just so everywhere for women. But that just may be my skewed perspective, as a woman. When my young daughter starts saying that she thinks she's fat, I wonder where she gets that from. You might say, from other women, but then I would ask where these other women get that from, and well, there's the media... (don't get me started... I see KK beat me to it.) and, I should just stop here and not go there. Leave it at one's personal experiences.

I, personally, care more about how a man treats me, than what he looks like.
If he treats me right, I see him as the most handsome man I know! Which reminds me of an old movie, I saw as a young girl, which left a huge impression on me. I don't know if anyone remembers the 1945 movie "The Enchanted Cottage" with Robert Young & Dorothy McGuire. I would like to see that again. I'll have to look into it.

I'm just saying that that is what we are spoon fed constantly. to the point we don't even realize how tiny these women are. we just think that is normal. not until the tide of public opinion is strong enough to stop it. supposedly some high end fashion designers are "banning" starving models, it's hard to tell. I was watching some talk show with victoria beckham who announced that she is a size zero "but healthy". she is also supposedly discouraging size zero models. hard to tell as far as I am concerned

I have been watching "Mad Men" since it began and am fully enjoying the attention the female stars are getting with their "real" curves and that the show's director (?) has forbidden the stars dieting.

until young girls can understand the difference between being 10 pounds over weight and being morbidly obesce, there will be eating disorders and body dismorphia

Actually, what I"m doing right now is admiring my new paper book.....

I loved MrPLD's wifes (Elita Daniels) ebook (Tree of Life) so much, I ordered a paper copy.

It came in todays mail. All the way from Australia.

I must say....... Inside the outer padded envelope it was very nicely wrapped in brown paper and tied neatly with string.

Even the ends were tucked under, no 'raw' edges. Like gift wrap? I'm not used to that.

I do lousy gift wrapping....

It feels good to hold a book......and it smells good too!

I was just reading a few articles on the New Scientist website and came across this rather interesting tidbit. If it pans out, trips to the optometrist may become few and far between. A researcher in Israel claims to have developed one-size-fits-all eyeglasses that work whether you are nearsighted or farsighted. Those who need glasses to drive could lend those same specs to their spouses who need glasses to read.
