Check out Virgin mobile pre-paid. I have a basic phone and I do the minimum $15 every 90 days top-up to keep it active. That works well for me as I use very few minutes.

I have VOIP though my cable provider. They were pushing us to get an all-in-one package including cable TV, Internet, and VOIP, which we avoided for a long time, as the cost saving in VOIP are mainly in LD calls. For practical purposes, we don't make LD calls, so there was no benefit in switching.

That's what I have, with the smallest, cheapest phone Nokia makes. I don't want a do everything smart phone. I want to place calls, receive calls, have voice mail, and send/receive SMS messages. That's it. The rest of the chores normally done with a smart phone I do on a PDA (which is also my main eBook reader.)

I haven't had coverage problems, and the price is right.

I read on a Palm OS PDA. It doesn't do ePub, but I can convert that to something it does do with Calibre. It's a 480x320 landscape display, with a 3.25" x 2.25" screen size.

It looks like this displaying a document in Plucker, an open source offline HTML viewer, using a 12 point Bitstream + Courier font,



like this displaying a file in Mobipocket for PalmOS, using a custom font enabled by FonthackV,



and a PDF looks like this displayed in the open source PalmPDF viewer.



I have no problems reading on it, and a larger screen would be even sweeter.

Depending on what ebook viewer solutions exist for the Droid, I think you'll be pleased.

kenny, my husband absolutely loves his droid x. He's trying to get me to get one. For now, I'm ok with my blackberry. His phone is awfully big!

ss, here's hoping you find that!! stinks to lose something like that. I've lost gift cards for places before, and it's super frustrating. One was $20 for Elliot Bay bookstore (back in the day ) and one was for $50 for babies-r-us (again, back in the day). ugh.

I'm preparing for another exam for licensure. Sort of. Mostly I'm surfing the net, avoiding it.
