For us it is more of a business issue, but essentially we are no longer going to play. The letter has now been sent through and we will wait for the storm.

The bigger issue is that the well meaning government wanted to improve conditions in indigenous communities, and maybe in some there has been improvement, but in the community we have been involved with, I can only see a whole bunch of extra (poorly trained) government employees trying to justify their existence, at great cost to the general community and the businesses involved. (I guess we got(we paid) satellite internet out of it)

The indigenous people of this community were already doing OK and the intervention (IMHO) has done nothing to make things better for them. Not to say that it hasn't helped some people elsewhere.

ha! it's like when they gave tours through the reservations here in the 60s and pointed out that all the brand new washers and dryers had chickens sitting on them or were being used for storing firewood!!!! the whole fact that there was NO ELECTRICITY never made an impact. it was just "those damn ignorant injuns"

Sitting. Enjoying it. Thinking about how the price reductions in the new Kindle and the nook make my old joke about if I ever won the lottery having a reader for each storefront not so far out anymore (and not so funny, either). I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I could now buy one each of a nook and a Kindle for less than I spent on my Asus.
Anticipating four days off in a row...that hasn't happened in a loooong time. Unfortunately it's only four days off from work, not four days off from school as well. Three and a half more weeks and I'm done with the third accounting class; and should be over the hump regarding schoolwork. The rest of my classes are mostly degree specific and sound interesting.

2000 posts. Verily a minor milestone considering how many babbling post padders I share this forum with. Many of whom do not even pause to form a coherent thought before spewing their verbal diarrhea all over innocent bystanders. Yea, though I wander through the sewers of MobileRead, I will fear no stupidity, for I wear the galoshes of literacy.
Since I first arrived within these heavily crayon scrawled halls, I have been befriended by many, though their combined I.Q.s add up to so very few. The groping that ensued was unsettling, the conversations forgettable and the spelling deplorable. Yet, scattered within this seething mass of sweaty naked flesh, a small group struggles against the undertow of ignorance to touch my mind, my heart and my soul. I would name them now, if any of them were actually here to bask in the afterglow of my triumph against adversity and this tiny Kindle keyboard. You know who you are. I know who you are. We share the knowing and in the knowing share the knowledge that we know each other. Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? Don't ask me, I don't know. But I know what I know about those of you I know by having gotten to know you. Even if some of you refuse to allow me to know you intimately. Your loss. Want a cookie? I do enjoy a good cookie every now and then. But, alas, I am without cookies. The maple/peanut butter dog biscuits aren't bad, though.
Finally, it is the duty of every MobileRead member to fight against the spread of the Romance genre both here and abroad. If you know a broad who reads that crap, throw her a cheap feel. Literature should never replace a good regular boff, boink or spork. Mods, you are on notice! Catch someone pushing Romance novels, pull them to the side and make an obscene suggestion. If they actually write the stuff, try fire.
Thank you.
Yea, verily! The seething mass of sweaty naked flesh! Erm, sorry I'm late. Would you mind elaborating on that part, by the way?

Sorry.
Accidently posted a NYC subway announcement.

Translates as
"R train local. Next stop: Times Square"

Believe it or not, the NYC subway system is remarkably easy to use.

I'm sure it is. I was being snarky about New York accents

I have used subways/metros around the world and they are *mostly* easy to use
