Stovetop kettles are actually pretty standard item in American kitchens. Or at least it seems that way.

Oh, I see.
I used them only in xUSSR and for a few years in Israel, then I used electrical kettle one time and never returned back to stove top kettles.

I used to use a kettle. It is just so much quicker to toss a cup of water into the microwave for 90 seconds.

I had to get my kettle from Amazon, you know, the cordless fancy one and such. I think its a more social thing for my ethnical background. Tea and coffee drinkers in this household. I use the teapot when we have 3 or more drinkers, usually after a meal or when there are visitors.

That's right. We do it with Green tea mostly. Only when fancy friends come we go through all the cerimony. Not the cha, but the English stuff. It is fun though.

I've only started drinking tea a few years ago. Afters years of making and pouring for family and guests it now has a type of ritual to it. Sharing a teapot after a meal nicely completes it and goes well with conversation. Now that I'm old I can really appreiciate that

I can recall pouring tea for every major event of my life; engagment ceremony, wedding, funerals, when special "Honored" guest visited my parent's home.

It was funny! Besides, on any forum you can't take everything seriously. I think I would have to actually ask someone to repeat or clarify themself if I thought they meant to be rude. Yes, I'm slow sometimes LOL!

As for the Yerba Mate, I've seen it at tea shops and in brochures before but have never tried it. Can you tell me a little about it? I usualy like med, to strong teas. Green teas are my favorite because they are not fermented. My least favorite is Oolong.
