Yes I'm very glad it's finally out, can't wait to get started. Not often I feel this excited about starting on a new book.

Alternating with La Belle France; a short history by Alistair Horne.

Seems a bit all over the place so far but I'm interested enough to keep reading.

Next up is Bryson's "A Walk in the Woods" since I need a little non-fiction break.
I may finish it. May not. The thing is, the slow bits are supposed to be at the beginning of the book, not the entire book.

I'm almost 1/2 done and while it's picking up, it's picking up too slowly. We should not have to wait till the second book to maybe get to the good bits.

I think there have been good bits so far. When I read it I want to keep reading it. So, it is keeping my interest. Yes, nothing major has happened yet... but the book is still enjoyable.

August is any genre of book. So we'll have to see what gets nominated. But really, I found June's voting to be a problem. Too many people were voting on a book because of reasons there were not appropriate. They were voting because the author was on MR, the book was free, or the author was an indie author. The reason to vote on a book is because you actually want to read it. I've voted on what I wanted to read which has nothing to do with cost or where the author posts and if the author is with a big publisher or not.

So as long as we nominate books we actually want to read, we'd have a better list with less chance of a dud.

The reason I didn't consider American Gods was that not too long ago, I finished The Graveyard Book and found it to be so-so. Now from what I have been reading about American Gods, maybe it would have been a good choice had it won. But the book we have now is a dull plodding nothing doing book. It's reminding me of A Passage to India in some ways.

As I said before, vote for books you WANT to read, not because they are free or the author is indie or the author posts on MR.

IMO, The Graveyard Book is not one of Gaiman's best. In fact it's probably the weakest I have read from him. American Gods is far, far better. But of course your mileage may vary
