Try doing just that, reading it. Slow down in your reading as you reach the section title: Uninstallation Which is at line 30 for the README document in the currently posted archive. eschwartz has already given you the: "What to do now" in the post above. |

@NiLuJe:
You simply must rename that file to something that will get it read, like: UsingElectronicPornToBecomeRich_WithVideoExamples_.txt ![]() (Just for those who own computers with an OS that will not display as text anything without the .txt extension.) Last edited by knc1; 11-14-2014 at 10:16 AM. |

I obviously only have checked this theoretically, because I don't have serial access to my device but:
* 5.6.x will most likely prevent downgrading. * Hell, it might even break Active Content on the PW2. (Or it might *fix* Active Content on the KT2 & KV, who knows). * It probably breaks some stuff (you'll need a snapshot version of the SS hack, for instance). * It currently prevents any custom update files from running, no matter the state of your JB. So, yep, not touching that one with a ten-foot pole until someone with serial access checks it out in practice ![]() Last edited by NiLuJe; 11-14-2014 at 06:10 PM. |

I need a bit of help, if those of you in the know wouldn't mind - thank you.
I was away when the dreaded updates came through yesterday, but my devices were on airplane mode so I didn't get hit. Yay! I want to quickly jb both of my PW2s and have questions and info relating. 1. Both are s/n 9017. 2. No FRs that I remember, but I was testing Voyages at the same time soooo...? I did, however, change the names on Amazon. 3. I know how to jb, have my links, info, etc., at hand and ready. 4. On my PW1 I used backdoorlock here https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...light=backdoor 5. If I have that in place on my PW2s after the jb, do I need to do any other locking methods as mentioned in this post? https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...41&postcount=3 6. I am on 5.4.5.1 but I know how to downgrade successfully and do the jb, only need to make sure that I don't get slammed afterward with unwanted updates. Many, many thanks in advance. ![]() |

@pghaworth:
2. FRs? 5. As eschwartz mentioned somewhere, probably not, but the directory method has the advantage of being both simpler and surviving updates. So far, no one has complained, so they must still do the job, although YMMV. 6. That said, keeping wifi killed all through the process is still your best bet. |

6. Oh yeah. That wifi will remain off for the near future while I Amazon-proof them. I knew the update would come, just hoped it wouldn't be so soon. Thanks for your help. Last edited by pghaworth; 11-14-2014 at 01:27 PM. |

@pghaworth: No idea, WiFi's off on all my Kindles, so I've never had to bother with it
![]() By nature, the directory thing can pretty much be combined with anything you like, though. |

I tried to install the jb bridge, just as a safety mechanism, but for whatever reason it would let me. I tried twice with an error ??007 both times. Anyway, everything else worked fine in spite of me. ![]() |

@pghaworth: When did you try to install the bridge?
(Not that you should, it's bundled with the JB, but a U007 error means you're NOT jailbroken, hence, my question about the timeline ![]() |

As I recommend in that post, you might as well do both just in case.

We have confirmation that 5.6 is really, really evil. It currently throws our updates files away. I have my suspicions, but it's not terribly useful to dig into it right now, so I'll let it lie for now (bonus: that'll help conserve some free time).

![]() Perhaps even buy something from the Amazon store and then take it apart? Although I hate to suggest that anyone send Amazon money right now. - - - - - Will get that serial port adapter hooked up RSN, then maybe I can help. |

![]() Now that I've done the downgrade, jb install, rescue install, backdoorlock hack, and put the lock "folder" in place should I go back and do the bridge install - will it help or hinder at this point? Both devices are done and I am happy, but I'd feel a lot better if I knew for certain that the new update won't eat through the locks. I need to download a library book and they can only be done over wifi. Has anyone [mistakenly or on purpose] tested this yet? |

@pghaworth: It won't hurt or help to install the bridge, it's already there.
And, yes, someone tried: it's a Chaotic Evil FW. [And if you meant tried to not get it over OTA with WiFi on: no idea]. |

Qui merde! What are the chances I'd be safe with my PW1 - no update there, right? I should be able to do the folder lock as well, if I understand correctly. They didn't send the update to PW1s did they?
