I’d like to go a size up to 8’’ myself at some point but I haven’t really “needed” to so far, so I didn’t really want to get the Sage last year yet - having a fully functional Kindle Oasis and opting to get the Boox in addition (for apps).
I do hope Kobo releases a new 8’’ BW device this year, in a similar form factor to Sage - if they do, I might be tempted to replace the Oasis as my main reader (as it’s nine years old this year and doesn’t have what I’d consider a replaceable battery, it’s not going to last forever). But the Boox is a very capable device - even though it can take some initial fiddling and tweaking to get it to look “right” for one’s personal taste and preference. |

Exactly. The problem is that the program is using the word bold to mean adding weight to the font. So without enough information, it sounds/looks like it may be using the bold variant of the font.

It would have been more useful if you used the same font for both images. The image on the right is a sans-serif font while the image on the left is a serif font. The dropcap moving around didn't help.

As for me, changing from a serif to sans-serif font is like being kicked in the eye. |

I believe this is about the Boox preset that is offered - if you look at my screenshots in an above post, it’s the “Bold” tab between “Original” and “Night”. It offers some preset font size/face combinations for larger, bolder text, but as with the other themes, it can also be customised.
Basically the Boox NeoReader has a few presets for ease of use for people who are happy with the options as presented to them, and then a gazillion ways to customise it (whether by adjusting the presets or customising your own sets of font face, font size, font weight, margin, letter spacing, line spacing, margins etc and saving them as themes, and of course you can upload and use your own preferred fonts as well). It does get confusing that it just calls that “larger, bolder font” preset “Bold” and also refers to font weight as “Bold” (which you can adjust under “More settings”), but I suppose anyone interested in more customising options can understand the meanings fairly easily when trying them out. |
