Kobo Libra H2O collections/shelves not updating (removing) on device
I recently got a Kobo Libra H2O and went back to managing my device with Calibre. I'm running into an issue with updating collections on the device where I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or if what I'm trying to do is impossible.
I have my books tagged both with genre and a "to read" tag. I.e. my Example Title will be tagged "mysteries" and "mysteries (to read)". I've customized the Kobo Touch plug-in to create collections from "tags", and this is working. When I've read Example Title, I remove the "mysteries (to read)" tag on Calibre. Then I want to send the edited book to the device again to update the metadata. On the device, however, it stays in the "mysteries (to read)" collection. (Similarly, when I renamed a tag in Calibre to correct a spelling error, sending the library to device created the new collection with the correct spelling, but also kept the old collection with the incorrect spelling, even though in Calibre, there are no books with that tag anymore. I do have "Delete empty collections" ticked in the plugin settings.) Am I doing something wrong, or is updating collections on the device that includes removing, not just adding, simply not possible? (I had a Kobo Glo HD a few years back and I *thought* this was possible, but I may be misremembering.) |

If everything is configured correctly, the collections will be created, books added and removed and collections removed whenever the Kobo device is connected. You should not need to send the book again.
The most common reason for the collection management to not happen is the setting of the "Metadata management" option on the "Sending books to devices" of the the preferences. The choice I recommend is "Automatic management". This allows the collection management and metadata updates to happen when the device is connected. I think you have this option set to "Manual management". If that isn't the case, or does not fix it, then I need to see the options you have set, or a debug log. The latter shows me what happens when the device is connected. To do this, restart calibre in debug mode by right-clicking the preferences button and selecting the "Restart in debug mode" option. Calibre will restart with a message about debug mode. Connect the device and let the connection jobs run. When they are finished, close calibre and the debug log will be displayed. Post or PM me the full log for me to look at. |

I had the metadata management on "Only on send"; I just changed it to "automatic management" and that did the trick! Sorry for the beginner mistake, but thank you for the help, I really appreciate it! (I thought "only on send" would do the same things, just at set times.)
