I’d like to go a size up to 8’’ myself at some point but I haven’t really “needed” to so far, so I didn’t really want to get the Sage last year yet - having a fully functional Kindle Oasis and opting to get the Boox in addition (for apps).

I do hope Kobo releases a new 8’’ BW device this year, in a similar form factor to Sage - if they do, I might be tempted to replace the Oasis as my main reader (as it’s nine years old this year and doesn’t have what I’d consider a replaceable battery, it’s not going to last forever).

But the Boox is a very capable device - even though it can take some initial fiddling and tweaking to get it to look “right” for one’s personal taste and preference.

I took some quick snaps of the Style tab on mine - specifically the “Original” (where I can choose font, font size etc) and that has a More Settings button, and then two examples where the weight (“Bold”) is set at 0 and one where it’s set at 8, which will hopefully show some difference on the pictures. The weight can be set to quite thick but there are many gradations so it’s easy enough to pick a suitable weight.

(The lighting is quite random right now and I haven’t edited the pictures at all apart from crop and resize. And mine is the colour one so the actual look depends a fair bit on both the ambient lighting and the front light. But basically as you can see, NeoReader does offer a fair amount of settings to adjust and customise.)
Thank you. The screen shots really help.

Yes, you can, and you can easily change it back.

The first picture is bold, the second picture is normal.

I think JSWolf meant that if you have selected the bold font, can you see the difference between a regular word and a bolded word in the text?

Exactly. The problem is that the program is using the word bold to mean adding weight to the font. So without enough information, it sounds/looks like it may be using the bold variant of the font.

It would have been more useful if you used the same font for both images. The image on the right is a sans-serif font while the image on the left is a serif font. The dropcap moving around didn't help.

That is the change that happens when I tap on bold. I don't really care what the font is as long as it is in bold.

To each their own.

Changing to a different font is not bolding a font. The screenshots below are the effect of the weight slider on a Kobo. No changing to a different font needed.

As for me, changing from a serif to sans-serif font is like being kicked in the eye.
