A Mobius screen is to allow a more flexible chassis. While it doesn't crack easily, it's likely lower life than a glass substrate. Also likely lower yield, thus more expensive.

Careful what you wish for.

The Forma had a Mobius screen. Mine is still going strong, and I haven't exactly babied it. Not even using a case for it.

I would love a Forma 2. Just give me another one with newer screen and faster CPU. For me, the size/weight of the Forma is perfect. The Sage was at best a side grade unfortunately.

What are "standard batteries"!? Perhaps you want AA batteries? (shudder)
Or worse, cr2032. Neither of these options have good capacity even ignoring weight issues.

Usually you get either waterproof or user replaceable batteries.
Hard to have both, especially with small batteries.

No, I meant the standard, rechargeable lithium-polymer batteries that most devices have and not some proprietary headache.

I don't care about the waterproof feature because it's utterly useless. For how many people that is actually useful? For like 1 out 100? Why not durable screens instead? How many posts there are on the internet with broken screens? Hint: a lot.

Waterproofing is just a tool to make the repairability hard, so you cannot change the battery easily, so even if you managed without breaking the screen, it still forces you to a buy a new device instead. A lot of people cannot charge their device properly, and the battery wears out in a few years. Manufacturers are just increasing the mountains of piles of global e-waste by making almost impossible to replace the batteries at home. Paper books were never actually waterproof, but we still managed it for hundreds of years. So yeah, I don’t care about the stupid waterproofing and other useless features that give no benefit to actual book reading in a device that was made primarily for book reading.

This is where you lose the argument and I don’t even disagree about the unimportance of waterproofing.

What happens if you spill a drink on a book? Or if you drop it into the tub? The book won’t be as nice anymore, but it’ll still be readable. And in the worst case scenario where you’ve got mush, your exposure is the cost of the single book only. In the case of an ereader your exposure in the case of a spill or a dunk can be literally hundreds of dollars. In other words, skip the hyperbole.

Well, I don't bring any paper stuff in the bathroom or anything actually which is not bathroom related, so the chance of water damage of electronics and books are near to zero.

Also take care of your electronics, that's what I say. Same with the books, no eating and drinking while reading for someone who tends to destroy their stuff with daily habits.

Like what candybar nokia phones (used to) have without cable connectors and whatnot. Easily replaceable with a single click.

Sorry to burst your bubble, nearly every single lipo battery for an embedded device is proprietary custom built for the device. That's actually one of their advantages -- manufacturers can easily shape them to fit.

Even your example is a proprietary battery.

As much as I'd love to be able to replace the battery easily, there just are not good options. To enable this, significant battery life would be sacrificed and increased weight would be necessary.

And so far, with careful treatment, by the time the battery in my kobo was weak, I had already upgraded to a new device anyway and was only using the device as a secondary device.
