We never bothered using two separate Amazon accounts for our books. My husband is a slow reader, and doesn't have much time for reading right now. He hopes that will change come 2022, when he is retired. It takes him a long time to finish a 400 page book. He does have his own Amazon account, mostly just for buying gifts for me he wants kept secret from me. We've never had a "separate account" type of marriage. Joint everything, except for email accounts and cars. |

I think the PW3 has been end-of-lifed by Amazon for no good reason.

I think we have a different definition of EOL. If you mean they are not updating the Firmware for the PW3, then it's too soon to say. Mine is currently at 5.12.4 and is fine. The DXG hasn't got KF8 support, it's 2.5.something and the older Kindle Keyboard is 3.4.something, it does support KF8. Both still access the Amazon store, one on 3G and the other WiFi. I read the DXG may not have the memory for KF8. You can still get less than 1 year old replacement batteries for both. Both work as they did originally. OTOH many makers have turned off servers or even deliberately bricked stuff not very old. The iPhone 4s was dumbed by Apple ages ago removing the Apps for it. So it only has whatever apps where on it before then. Still connects to the Apple Store! Another definition is "when they don't sell it". They've not sold the PW3 for a while? Unlike Adobe products or Microsoft, "security vulnerabilities" isn't a big issue. Even there, while MS doesn't sell Windows 7 and no longer does retail support, there is paid and embedded support for years yet, probably. Last edited by Quoth; 05-01-2020 at 12:32 PM. Reason: Another definition. |

You don't understand EOL in computer terms. When Amazon stops updating the PW3 with the current firmware then it is EOL. The PW2 on down is EOL.

You can still buy books for them, even very-recently-published books, and can still use it for all the purposes you could when you bought them. When changes happen that stop Amazon's servers working with them, they fix them. That is not EOL. It's just deep maintenance mode, that's all.

Sorry, but EOL does apply. Yes they can still work, but that doesn't mean they are not EOL. A good example is Windows 7. It works. But it's EOL.

I am still so happy about it fixing my battery issues though. I am still on the same charge from when I posted about it and I read 2 books and I am at 63% now. Day 4 I think? Started the 3rd book. Had wifi on almost all day too. So whatever was messed up with .4 got fixed for me with this one. For reference, those books took me about 4 hours reading time each, they are a bit longer. | |

I seem to be having more battery drain on my 5.12.5 update now in fact. That said, as I'm at home nearly all the time and my Oasis hasn't been out of the house since 16 March, it doesn't really matter in practice. Sent from my SM-N976B using Tapatalk |
