I don't like the switch, but as an evening person I would far rather have DST all year round! Heck, I want a 26 hour long day. My body keeps pressing me to stay up late each night, which results in being later and later for things I have to do. I want the whole day to be longer!

If you examing the Time Zone map, by rights Kauai and Oahu should be in UTC-11 and Maui and the Big Island should be in UTC-10, but they manipulated the map and put the whole state (as well as the minor islands in the archipelago) in UTC-10. So we here on Oahu are in a continual state of HDT year around. And that's fine by me as long as it doesn't do that spring ahead/fall back insanity.

How about this fall we split the difference, set our clocks back 30 minutes and just keep it that way year round!

Today was National Napping day. Apparently it always comes the day after DST starts so that we can all take a nap to make up that missing hour of sleep.

IIRC they shifted their clocks forward at midnight on December 29th by 24 hours and 'lost' December 30th. This left the US Samoan colony 80 miles to the east 25 hours behind them BR

But there's a fair bit of individual variance; about 25% of people have a natural rhythm shorter than 24 hours (in darkness).

I love the extra hour in the fall. The dog doesn't understand having to wait to eat though. I've lived in places that didn't observe it before so I wouldn't care if it went away. I worked the graveyard shift and then swing for years, so my body clock is messed up anyway. |

I'm in the normal time camp. We're already 45 minutes slow compared to solar time (meaning in winter, the sun is at the zenith around 12:45). And I have no need for a sunset after 22:00. Thankfully, we still have 2 weeks to go...

For a while I thought I was a voice crying in the wilderness, but leaving out the "don't cares," about a third like DST. Ironically, that's the flip side of how much of the year is on DST, which is close to two-thirds. I hope the antis have made up for their sleep deprivation and can enjoy those long afternoons. I know I will once the snow melts. |

Leaving out the don't cares, less than one quarter of people like DST. (7/29 as I write this.) Including the don't cares, less than one fifth of people like DST. (7/37) Including the don't cares, nearly 60% hate it. (22/37) Perhaps DST has had its day. * as in wrong. Last edited by pdurrant; 03-15-2018 at 04:23 AM.
