Daylight Savings Time

I realized last night that my Paperwhite doesn't automatically update its time setting for daylight savings time. I don't suppose it matters for anything other than syncing the last page read and possibly for time sensitive purchases, but I thought I'd remind others. It's so easy to overlook that.

To change the time on the Paperwhite, from the home screen touch Menu, then Settings.

On the Settings screen touch Device Options.

On the Device Options screen touch Device Time. It's easy to move the hour one ahead or behind.

Yeah I noticed the same thing yesterday. Of course I was tired due to the shorter night of sleep. One minute it was 1:59 a.m. and the next it was 3 a.m.

My Kindle 3 Wi-Fi does the same thing. The only kindles that will change time automatically are the ones with 3G.

When I went to change the time I thought there would be a checkbox for daylight savings (yes/no). But you just have to change the actual time instead.......speaking of, first time I have worn my watch since saturday....I have to change it!

I hate the twice-a-year time change. The loss of sleep is nothing compared to the changing of the myriad of clocks and the missed appointments because you forgot one. I think it's simply an exercise of the government forcing almost 400,000,000 people to do something pointless for the fun of it.

Agreed. Russia had the right idea a few years ago, when they decided to stop doing it.

I'd love for the US to go the same route. I don't care which they pick, Standard or Daylight Savings, just pick one and be done with it.

Oh, come on. It's only twice a year, and there's plenty of publicity around at the time. How hard can it be to remember?

I guess it perhaps is harder in the US, where the next town might be in a different time zone. We have it much easier, using a single time zone for the whole country.

And you have Greenwich as well so you know the proper time from the prime meridian.

And that's only about half a mile from my place

though we're not going to Summer Time for a few weeks yet.

Apparently there have been studies in Sweden that correlate springing forward with an increased chance of stroke as well as an increased chance in getting hit by a car.

Not really that surprising to me. I've lived in both DST and non-DST places. I prefer not switching ever.

A town I lived in for a couple years was considered on the Mountain Time Zone, while the rest of the state was in the Pacific Time Zone. That was kind of odd.
