If you have firmware above 5.8.8 Amazon will no longer allow you to downgrade. It's a new, very frustrating, feature. So no jailbreak for 5.8.8+ at this time.

It's been the case for a very long time that you can't downgrade firmware. It certainly didn't start with 5.8.8.

I had no issue prior to 5.8.8, so am not sure when it started?

Downgrade via initial/factory firmware was blocked starting with fw 5.8.8. Downgrade via any older official/consumer bin file was blocked sometime around fw 5.4 or 5.5, IIRC. Paperwhite 1st gen is the only exception (it can be downgraded from fw 5.6.1.1 via "reboot before disconnecting from PC" method) to that rule.

Have you had problems since? My book opened to last reading position immediately after updating. This was a Send-to-Kindle book, WhisperSync enabled.

You mean you can read books on a Kindle?

I always thought they where just something to be taken apart.

To be honest, I did once try sitting a book on top of a Kindle, but it did not seem easier to read on the Kindle than sitting on the desk.

I'm so glad somebody else gets this - was beginning to think it was just me.
My wife and I both have Voyages, I get this issue every couple of weeks, she never gets it!!

Do you know if Amazon are aware of it (and therefore likely to address it)?

I reported it last fall when it first started happening to me.

It would likely help if more people reported it as well.

Hi Zeebra, did you still experience this issue randomly after the update? I am still unsure to update this firmware though. I dont have manga and no concern on text alignment. Only this random issues - which a bit annoying.
