I've already read a book on mine. I really need a case though right now I am holding it by its sides and trying not to touch the back at all because of fingerprints.

Yes it is the same in Germany right now, but last week, before the promotion, you could get the 2014 ones.

Well, they are keeping the HDX 7 in the current lineup to occupy the middle of the pack. It is a superior (much) device to the HD 7 and HD 6 but not as powerful or featureful as the HDX 8.9 (as you said).

The Snapdragon 800 SoC is still a fantastic and definitely not budget setup.

I cancelled my order, i don't want a blue edge to my screen. I've ordered the 16GB HD6. This time I know what I'm getting so the functionality won't be such a shock. Plus I want the whispersync TTS and this is the best option.

The new update to 4.5 is pretty slick. I like Sangria for the most part.

You did the right thing HDX blue light bleed drove me nuts. It varies so much you never know what it's going to look like. Luckily I got my Nexus 7 to replace it then a few weeks later during Cyber Monday got the HD 7 which I've loved but the HD 6 comes really close to beating Nexus 7 on reading for me. I prefer the smaller screen on the 6" for reading. Now we got immersion mode from Kit Kat on the Kindle Fire. Scribd still needs to add it on the KF but Mantano, Moon+ both have immersion mode that works on the KF with Sangria.

As I'm buying from a retailer I'll manually update mine if the set up doesn't trigger it. I've bought a cheap case off eBay from a UK seller to tied me over for now as I don't know what kind of cover I want yet.

No. See, a week ago, the newest HDX 7, with the newest Snappdragon 805, was available to order. Now it is not available anymore, instead they are only selling the older one.

Yes, but I won't be after Black Friday. Elite status occurs when you spend a minimum of $1500 at Best Buy in a calendar year. At work, I was the BF expert and would frequently buy things for friends during BF sales, so it was easy to hit that level last year. This year, the want lists for family, friends and myself won't approach that amount. About the only time I shop at Best Buy is during BF.

Just to clarify things on the HDX 7. Amazon has only made one generation and that was last year (2013). Amazon did not make a new HDX 7 for this year. They're still using last year's model as this year's model.

Thanks Tubemonkey I didn't think I was going nuts. Although if they've had lots of issues with the blue LEDs you'd have thought they'd have released a new HDX 7 this year with white LEDs

I gave up on Amazon's Quality control two years ago. If a product has issues the chances of it being fix are very slim. Amazon rather play the replacement game till you are just settle with one you can tolerate. If a product doesn't have issues then it usually stays that way but if it does then I know to just skip and hope for a better model someday.

I don't know why they didn't introduce a new model this year. Maybe production problems?

One thing is certain, Amazon has totally screwed up their naming. What they're doing now confuses people. What they should've done from the get go was this:

My guess is they are phasing the HDX 7 out which is why the HD 7 got an upgrade and HDX 8.9 got an upgrade. They are here to stay. Time will tell if the KF 6 stays or not.
