All this tablet talk. Does this mean that Amazon is NOT going to have a new model of e-ink reader this fall? Have there been any rumors about that? eP |

Plenty of rumors. Just Google "Kindle 4 rumors". The tech pundits say that there will be a Kindle 4 e-ink reader released in the fourth quarter of 2011, probably with a touch screen interface. Amazon isn't saying and nobody really knows. | |

I'm calling hoax. Amazon has no plans for anything. No Kindle. No tablet. Nothing. Amazon is a giant ponzi scheme and their website will disappear any day now while Bezos flees the country with a giant sack of money.

The Kindle isn't going anywhere. They aren't going to dump the biggest, game-changing cash-cow in the history of their company to enter a risky market noted mostly for its failures. I think Amz understands better than anyone that e-ink is a different animal. Even B&N knew this. Many people thought the NC was the successor to their Nook e-reader, but it obviously was not, as they released a new eink device after it.

Since this seems to be more of the same with a launch date vs. production date, I'm going to re-open this dead thread. Digitimes has posted another rumor: Amazon likely to launch 10.1-inch Kindle Fire in 3Q12; to suspend 8.9-inch model Which has been picked up by Wired:Amazon Rumored to Be Readying a 10-Inch Kindle Fire |

this makes more sense to me. 8" fits in my pocket, 10" sits on the coffee table. i see no point in making something smaller than the ipad that won't fit in a pocket or purse (not a confession).

Now, will it be 4:3? I hope so. It seems all the android tablets are 16:10 or 16:9, which I hate. While the geek in me is chafed by all the restrictions apple places on its iThings, the 4:3 form factor, the very hi def screen, and the better overall apps still make the iPad 3 look more attractive than the android offerings. Maybe next generation. |

I just hope the rumor of a 10" device is true, and that they won't be producing an 8.9" instead. I'll buy a 10" Amazon tablet the day it is announced.

Ever since the official announcement of the Kindle Fire I've been taken it for granted that a 10" model will be released at some point, and it being out by Christmas this year seems logical. What I'm really crossing my fingers for though, is that the launch of the 10" Fire will coincide with the Fire line-up also being made available to Canada.
